For those of you who read the Top Speed topic - I'm off to the Horseshoe Pass. I have a free train ticket and have decided to revisit my favourite descent.

Good for you Campag!!! If you can do it, you might as well, rather than always wishing you had.

BTW my Mom is Welsh, from Myrthyr Tydfil in S. Wales. I still have some cousins in Wales, but I think most of them are in England now.

Ride on!!!:D

I hope you'll get a chance to take some photos that you can link to or post here...

Have a great trip!

Well Folks I'm Back!!!

First time down The Horshoe in 7 years, I'd forgotten how steep it is. There has been a landslip on the right hand bend, so there has been a chicane built - with single file traffic, which is nice because of a distinct lack of warning signs, thankgod there wasn't any traffic coming up the Pass.

Top Speed 43mph - quite a strong headwind. I also had new wheels on, it takes me a short while to fully trust my equipment.

Till next time

Ps I'm about 30 miles away from Merthyr - in a town called Cwmbran. I was from Liverpool originally but moved to Cwmbran to live with a girl who I met on Holiday. Puke lol

Isn't that some of the most amazing scenery? I think I could even be inspired to slug along a road like that. (Huff-puff-puff...) I hope CampagFetish Boy will post some photos, but on the other hand taking pictures takes valuable pedaling time away.... At least there should be a good story, hopefully not too hair-raising.

I'll take a camera next time and get a friend to scan the pics in for me. Those links were from walkers websites - I'm sure I could do better myelf so you would get an even better idea of what the place looks like. Those current pics don't do the place justice.

Campag,
You mean you are English, not Welsh? Rats! I was going to ask you how to pronounce
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

The June 2001 "National Geographic" came yesterday. There is a really interesting article about Wales.

Oh, well, even if you are not Welsh, if I ever get to fulfill my ambition of making a single malt whisky distillery tour of Scotland by bicycle, can I ride on down and do that descent with you? :)

I'm not Welsh either (Scots-Irish ancestry instead), but I believe "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch" is pronounced "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch."

I could be wrong....

Hey, thanks, JonR! I guess those Welsh "Fun With Phonics" tapes paid off after all! :)

That is actually the name of a village in northern Wales!
