Mountain Biking - A 19" Frame for a 6'1 guy?

I'm 6'1, and I wear pants with a 32 inch inseam--which go a little past my feet. I am looking at a 2003 Jamis Exile XC in 19" size. Will this bike fit me? I'm really more concerned about the top tube. Thanks

I'm 6'2" w/ 34" inseam and ride a 19.5". Actually a couple of them. I didn't like the lesser standover on a larger frame.

You are in the ball park for sizing. I'm 6'-0" and ride a 19" frame w/110mm stem and it fits perfect. One of my trail buds is 6'-2" and rides a 19" frame w/ 110mm stem and he feels it is a bit small. He changed over to a 120mm stem and is quite happy.

For your size, a 19" will likely be a "small" fit. It all depends on what if you are comfortable on the bike.

Make sure that you try riding a 21" bike to see if you like the feel of that one better. If the shop doesn't have 21" (typically an extra large), try riding some bikes at other shops.

Fit is often a personal thing. You could take too people with identical body structure and they may choose two different size bikes.

Realize that you're preference may change once you are riding as well. What you think feels good today may encumber you tomorrow. Take for example a BMX rider who is used to a REALLY small bike. They might choose an MTB one size too small because they are used to that fit. But once they ride enough XC-MTB, they will soon feel encumbered by an inability to really "stretch" out.

I'm 5"11.5 and I ride a 19". Just go to your LBS and try one.

I'm 6'2" with a 34" inseam , and ride a 19" jamis dakar(but wish it was a hair bigger) .The top tube length is fine (w/a 90mm stem) , but I need to run at least a 375mm seatpost to get the proper seat height . Ride before you buy .

I'm 6'6" and I've ridden both a 19.5" and a 14.5" most recently. They fit me fiine.

I'm 6'2" and tried both a 19 and a 21 on test rides. The 21 is on layaway.

I'm 6'1" and ride a 21. I have ridden smaller frames in the past, but don't like the feel of them. I like the feel of the larger bike.

I'm 6'1 and am building up a 19" rigid ss for myself. Remember, some people may be the same height, but everyone is built different. So try bikes in different sizes and go with what feels comfortable to you.

I think it's obvious here that there is a "personal choice" factor here. (studying everyone's responses)

I'm around 6'1"-6'2". If all I was going to do was XC (non-technical), I'd do 21". I do aggressive trail riding, though and I love my 19". For urban / freeride, I'd do 17.5".

I don't have enough money to have 3 really decent rides, so I pretty much stick to my 19".

im 6' and my 21 inch rockhopper is a fraction too big but my medium fsr is perfect fit. Would adjusting the stem and handle bars on my rockhopper make my bike fit? And also is the specialized fsr xc medium size the same as 19" frame?

6'1", 19" frame is perfect.

If your trail riding aggressively I would say YES! You'll love having the clearance.

No where near your height but standover is important. Seat height has to be right and bars from saddle- Only way is to sit and feel if its right. Small frame- long seat tube and bars can be adjusted with flat or risers and stem length. Then theres the type of riding you want to do- pure XC - aggressive terrain where control is important- lots of climbing- fast smooth trails. In theory all require a different set up but that is down to you to get the bike you are comfortable with- in the size that is comfortable and then adapt. Attachment is of my 15" Bianchi that is set up for me.
