Foo - Do you believe in Karma??

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Do you believe in the saying what comes around goes around?? Like when someone is simple just mean to you. Even if they have a reason. Is it better to act upon that meanness or move on??
I believe its better to forgive and forget kind of thing. Its always worked for me, I used this rule of thumb in a relationship with my parents. My feeling is I don't want to die a bitter person.
Tell me what you think if your brain doesn't hurt yet.:D
I'm with you, Snowy. Let it go, the Universe will do what it does, and there's no need to make ourselves unhealthy through resentment and anger.
Sometimes there are things worth fighting for. But most little things are not worth it.

I do think that the choices you make and how you treat people will have an affect on you in the future. But I don't think it's any kind of cosmic force.
As far as forgive and forget, I dunno. Would you forgive and forget a spouse that you caught cheating on you? Or a drunk driver for hurting or killing a family member? I wouldn't (notice I didn't say "couldn't"). It all depends on what your relationship with the person is and what happens therein. Forgive and forget: some situations yes, some situations never.
EDIT: By the way, I went to school with an Equadorian woman named "Karma". So unbelievably beautiful and had a golden personality, to boot. If only she wasn't married... I never killed a man, but I certainly thought about it...

Not for humans, only for chameleons.

Karma got back at me today. I was locked IN my apt. The deadbolt broke when I was trying to leave for work. I called ahead letting my boss kniw I'd be late. By the time I got here, well... it made everyone's day.
So I guess Karma is kind of like a Jalapeno.

I vote, "no"...what, we're not voting? Sorry, nobody told me.;)
I'd like to think there is a "payback" of sorts...good or bad(for corresponding deeds, or lack thereof), but I don't think so. Doesn't fit into my perception of reality, or lack thereof....

I agree with you Snowy. Don't react to the meanies with a like kind mean response.

Yeah, I forgave and forgot for the very thing you're talking about.
If you don't forgive, them you have chosen to carry that weight with you until you do. IMO, it's neither good nor bad what you decide ...it is what it is.

Forgive, but never forget is my motto.
As for Karma. It's a *****. I would have to say that if Karma existed then I must be an extremely horrendous person. But I'm the type of person that get's screwed for doing the right thing so who knows. Maybe Karma has special rules for people like me.
I believe what goes around comes around. I'll help someone even if I know I'll never see again. If they offer to pay me, I'll ask them to just do something nice for someone else.
You call it Karma, I guess that's OK.
I'll cite Matt 25:33-40 instead. This is just one of my motiviations. Please don't shout me over to the P&R fourm!

I still follow the what comes around goes around, but for the most part I've yet to ever really be on the positive receiving end of anything, though admittedly things could be alot worse.

I think it's better to forgive and forget and the fact that you went on forgetting... isnt it the best revenge anyway? that when someone meant to hurt you all they were capable to do was indeed to just see you walk away as if you never knew them? Not letting them get to you in my book is the best revenge and I do think that somehow life will get them back.

I don't necessarily believe in Karma.
If someone were mean to me I'd forgive but wouldn't forget. If that person really hurt me, on purpose, repeatedly, I wouldn't want to stay connected with them. But I wouldn't be mean to them in return and not because I believe in Karma or not, but just 'cause that's the person I am :o
Nope, I don't believe in it.

C'mon now, Tex.... I'm not sure if you watch the show or not, but it is one of the best comedies out there. It's not a slap-stick, innuendo-laden, laugh-track train wreck.
It's not so much about the Karma, as it is about turning your life around, making up for past grievances, and how such a turn around can lead to a richer sense of self being. Okay, okay, I'm getting a little deep about a TV show.... :o
By the way, on this topic, I do believe that the good we put into life indirectly affects the good we see coming back into our lives. So being positive in your everyday life will help you to see the positive side of even life's many challenges. That's a state of mental well being as much as it is some cosmic force, such as Karma. A lot of 'luck' in life comes from the hard work in preparing to make the luck happen.

I definately believe in Kharma...Its a theory I base all of my spiritual stuff on !
Your parental quandry is the same as a situation we have to deal with in my household too....
I have to suffer Temp work in the lowest element of the factory type currently......
I bicycle commute and suffer the usual lowlevel assualts by ignorant car drivers.......
In all of this stuff taking the high road and just letting go of bitterness and ignoring mean
spirited antagonism as helped me get through the unpleasantries. Whenever I give in to it
by returning meaness I feel bad about it for a long time afterward. You can let the moment
of meanness go but the person putting it on you is still having to suffer being a mean, miserable
person. Feel sorry for them.

I'm curious...if there weren't any Karma, would you conclude that being mean would be the right thing to do?

Parents are sometimes bad people, but they are what you have. They provided the raw material for you. You can't hurt them without hurting yourself.

Is Karma a religious thing?
'Cause if it is, then no.
Ka rules!
Ka: the force in Stephen King's Dark Tower series that leads all living (and unliving) creatures, it is the equivalent of destiny, yet not. It is the force that causes a destiny to happen, but is not necessarily impossible to surpass. Ka is anything and everything. It can be considered to be a guide, a destination, but is certainly not a plan - at least, not one that is known to mortals. Ka is not necessarily a force of good or evil; it manipulates both sides, and seems to have no definite morality of its own.

A few months ago I helped take apart the women's restroom door lock to help a coworker that was locked in the bathroom when the door jammed. I bet she wished she were in her apartment.:D Honestly though, I believe that good deeds and kindness beget good deeds and kindness. People don't help mean people very often do they?

I believe in karma, but when someone does something to me to hurt me I walk away, forgive and forget that I ever knew them, I just walk away from them pretending I have never even knew them. I dont go for a revenge cause i think not letting that preson get to you is the best revenge and I think life will get them back someway or another.. and if life doesnt, then someday I might remember what they did and send my chihuahuas after them.. hehe

I pick only the best when choosing my bodyguards..
i know of several people who were really mean and rotten and in later years, bad things did happen to them. Even if real 'revenge' doesn't happen, like a big disaster or whatever, their treatment of people will come back to haunt them. Especially if you build your life on lies and deceit. Eventually it all caves in on you.
