thought i would share this with my fellow bike forumites. just sold the klein attitude and packaged it up for shipping yesterday. took it to the ups store and they charged me $125 for shipping. it seems i used one of mine older bike boxes that is over 52 inches long. if i had used a 52 inch or shorter box the charge would have been $55. wow was i surprised! came home and checked the rates on ups website as i had a feeling the guy at the ups store was riping me off. nope. did two different quotes with same dimensions except one 52" long the other 53". that one inch relations to $70 more charge. keep this in mind when doing any shipping.
All Forumers - Be aware that Fed-Ex Ground is much more economical AND dependable than UPS. And, as alancw3 says, measure twice, ship once.
I just sent by bike back to me from phoenix to south san francisco in a box I got from a bike shop dumpster. It was 47x32x11. Costed 36 with insurance to ship.
