Bicycle Mechanics - Any fork compression plug recommendation?

I just bought a frame that came with the original Look HSC fork (after the subsequent HSC-2, HSC-3, ... were introduced, it was dubbed the HSC-1) It has a 1" threadless steerer made of carbon. I have my headset installed but I don't have the in-steerer anchor for the stem tightening bolt. On alloy steerer threadless forks, this role is taken by a star nut, on the Alpha-Q carbons it's an aluminum sleeve that is epoxied in. I have familiarity with those systems, but apparently this fork is spec'ed to use a compression plug.

Since neither the Look branded compression plug, nor any other substitute is available locally, I researched a few options. FSA, Reynolds ("Ouzo") and Profile all make a compression plug that works with 1", and Nashbar sells a house-brand unit as well as the Weyless.

Do the experienced denizens of this forum have a recommendation among these or for that matter not among them as my best bet for getting a long life out of what looks like a low mileage Looks HSC? I even have considered springing for the True Temper Alpha-Q sleeve, as that is certainly a stable setup, as long as the user is happy with the initial ( final ) placement. Many thanks.

I used the Profile compression plug in a cr-mo steerer Kestrel carbon fork as a temporary expedient until I decided where I wanted to cut the steerer. Then I replaced it with a star nut which was lighter.

The Profile expander worked fine and I recommend it. I assume it will fit in the thicker wall carbon steerer.

Just for history's sake, my HSC-2 came with an aluminum insert in place of the star nut, not a compression plug. It's threaded just like a star nut to accept the bolt from a top cap. It doesn't seem like it was bonded in place, but it's grooved down its length and possibly pressed or molded in. Mine kept pulling out of the steerer when I would adjust the headset. I took it to my LBS, who then proceeded to bash it into submission. It was painful to watch, and it's still frightening to think about. I don't know why they didn't suggest that I use a compression plug, as it seems like the obvious choice.

Oooops! I should have read the OP more carefully. Yes, BTE does list a 1" expander plug too.
