Mountain Biking - Which pedals should i get for my sore knee??

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I currently have eggbeaters on my mountain bike. I started running a month or two after using the pedals now i have a pain in my knee. I took off the pedals (2 weeks ago) and have started running again and i have no pain in my knee. So i am guessing i need a pedal with more float. The eggbeaters have 6 degrees of float. I was looking at the ATAC pedal which has 10 degrees and the speedplay has like 20-26 degrees. I really like the ATAC pedal, but the speed play has more float, but speed play also has a lot of bad reveiws. Do you guys think the extra 4 degrees is enough or should i go with the speedplays?

both Speedplay pedals and float for bad knees have been discussed a lot with good comments, so do a search.

i also had knee problems about 3 years ago (also running and cycling) and bought the Speedplay Frogs and have been VERY happy with them. i now have them on 3 bikes and have had no problems. my original pair wore out after about 2 to 2 1/2 years after about 25,000km, but i think that's OK with SO much use. i have occaisonally had knee problems since then, but much less and mostly i think just from running or seat hieght.

my only real complaints about them are:
1) they're not cheap
2) you can't switch bikes with many people as few people have Speedplays
3) they're relatively difficult to ride in normal shoes for those rare occasions
4) some shoe soles will have to be cut a little to allow enough room for the larger cleat.

otherwise, they're super light, handle dirt and mud well, function well and are very high quality

I love my ATACs.. I've never had any knee pain whatsoever, and they're impervious to mud/sand/water. They have a firmer feel than other pedals, so some people say they're harder to get out of. But I don't think they really are, they just take some getting used to.

yeah, Mambwe, no need to post the same question in 2 thread/areas. it's kind of confusing/annoying.

the admins can move the thread if you think you posted it in the wrong place.

I run the Time ATACs on my mtb and the speedplays on my road bike. They both are good pedals that offer float for the knees. However, the speedplays seem to offer almost unlimited float. I really like the Times for the dirt though. They shed mud, and offer a large platform.
