Is 14 min and 3 sec a good time for 5.01 mile TT?

On the subject of TT, my average heart rate for said TT was 168, which is 90% of 186.67. I could have pushed harder in the middle, so I am not convinced that 186.67 is my max heart rate. Having said that, I have never seen my heart rate go over 189. This seems very low to me, being 18. With the average 220-age I should have a max of 202. 189 as a max doesn't seem right to me. However, my dad has the same problem. For the AF fitness tests he has to do, he always struggles with getting his heart rate up.

Yes, 14 minutes is a good time for a 5 miler. Where did you ride it, though? On the trainer, flat roads, rolling roads? Was it windy, cold, warm? Make sure you keep track of these things so you can see your progress, fubar.

As far as your heart rate goes, don't worry if your maximum doesn't follow along with the 220-age. That formula is a estimate. A series of real maximum heart rate tests are much more accurate. I know 18 year olds who are right around 189, like yourself.

are you using areo bars? I just tried them today and they sure do help when it is windy and such....

Nah, no aerobars. If I do a TT competition I may get an aerobar setup. But I don't want to use clip-ons, I'm going to invest in a dedicated aerobar setup. I found some Syntace stuff that will work.
