Bicycle Mechanics - Is this a horrible idea?

I bought a Bianchi Krono ( 650 front and 700 rear) and the bar is way too low for normal riding. I have a pair of NOS Scott Drop-ins. Could I mount them upside down to get a proper bar height, or am I just asking for an engineering disaster?

Ahhh, the drop bar flip. Sometimes known as "The DUI Special" or, in some parts of the country, "Chicago Style."

I've never seen someone do the "flip and twist" with a pair of Scott bars. Interesting idea, and it'd probably work just fine. But why ride a time trial funny-bike that doesn't fit you? The whole idea behind the 650C front was to get the bars very low, often in the days before aero bars. Better to sell it to an unsuspecting triathlete.

Side note: I remember seeing a picture from way back when of Viatcheslav Ekimov's time trial bike. He had the aero bars mounted on the lower, drop-in portion of a pair of Scott bars. Talk about danger.

I'm just not flexible enough right now. My hamstring "pops" when I am bent over that low. Not a painful pop, more like when you crack your knuckles, just muscle, not my joints. I bought it off of ebay for 300, I guess I was the only one that noticed that it had super record components, plus the guy gave me some NOS gum hoods that I just saw go for 30 and a set of modelo speedy red ano and grey brake levers and brakes, and a set of NOS Look red pedals. Such a deal.

Sounds like a real classic. I suggest you try a Nitto Technomic stem instead of the handlebar flip. It'll keep the bike looking like less of a freak show, and it's pretty cheap.

Because a lot of those old TT bikes were made to be used with bullhorns, they have very low front ends. When riders started using aero bars, a lot of them had to use very high-rise stems to get the bars up high enough. So a high stem wouldn't look too out of place.
