Hello all,
Does anyone have any info on the up and coming Hudson Valley Velodrome. I'm hoping to hear from someone who lives near this area and may have driven past the location. If anyone here has knowledge of this project, please let us know how its going.
I haven't seen any updates to the website since last October.

Here is a link to their website. http://www.hudsonvalleyvelodrome.com/

I sent email to the contact person in February and received this reply:

Re: Request from Hudson Valley Velodrome and

Thanks for writing.
Work on our development has halted for winter.
Once it is completed, our reclamation plan
for the shale pit is to create the velodrome.
So, we're looking at sometime this summer.
Any updates will be posted at the website.

Regards,
John McGovern

Hi Chuck,
I checked the website http://www.hudsonvalleyvelodrome.com/ just last week and I didn't see any changes. So the only thing I know is that the website is still on the internet. Sure would be nice if this gets followed through on. I'm still too far away to try to offer assistance. If I was closer I would do whatever I could to help the project. I haven't tried to make any further contact with John McGovern. Let us know if you are able to find out anything.

I emailed John, and he replied with:

The velodrome project is the final step of a new housing development.

Given the continued warm weather, we're able to keep working on the housing
development, and are hopeful to be complete come April.

If that works out, we can commence track construction. The site itself is
excavated, and we're milling and curing boards.

Regards,

JM

Milling and curing boards? What does this mean? I thought the track was going to be concrete...

Boards? That sounds better than concrete. I've never ridden boards. I've only tried the asphalt at Kissena. Maybe its cheaper. Sounds more expensive in the long term though. If this track gets built I'll be excited. Three tracks close to NYC will be great.

Not sure what it means in wood, but in metal working milling is a type of machining to make the workpiece smooth. Curing wood is drying, sometimes done outside, sometimes in a heated kiln.

I've been to Forest City Velodrome, and listening to riders go around on wood gives a rumble I have difficulty describing.

From what I have been told there has been more dreaming than actual work going on.

BTW The criterium course sounds interesting: " On site is a paved 9/10 mile criterium course with a stiff hill and exhilarating descent. This course is shared with the residents of the Gallis Hill Mobile Home Park, so be alert for cars, walkers, children and possibly pets"
Hey cool! pitbull initiated sprints!
