General Cycling Discussion - I got it!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
So I went out today to the 'once a year, one day only anniversary sale' at my LBS and picked up the Norco VFR5 I've been looking at for the past 3 weeks. Got a great (I think) deal on it as well as some Shimano shoes to go with my new eggbeaters.
Here is the standard web pic:

I'll post another one once I actually buy a digicam (soon) and I have it all accessorized.
Now I can finally get off the couch and lose some of the winter flab :D
New bikes are so great! Congratulations, have fun!
Update... rider down :) nothing like going almost zero and tipping over... lucky for me and the bike... but mostly for me that we were on a softened community trail (crushed gravel) so the landing wasn't too bad. I actually burst out laughing while looking at the sky :D
Oh well, might as well get the spills over with as the serious riding begins tomorrow. I'm going to work as a practice run for the rest of next week.

Congrats! I love that new bike smell!:p
I learned that the Crank Bros road cleat screws were too short for the shoes I bought. At the first stop I took a spill and lost a screw a mile from home, when i tried to unclip, the cleat spun and didn't unclip. I returned home and used the screws the shoes cames with and haven't had a problem since. I jacked up the rear skewer only during the fall. A nice person at Bontrager/Trek hooked me up with a free replacement, even though it was stupidity. I don't own a Trek, just the Trek parts on it. I was impressed by that. Makes up for the problems I had when I tried to buy a 7700fx last year. Spills suck.
Looks like a nice ride you got, they don't sell that bike across the border here.

OOOOhhhhh! Pretty! May I borrow it? :D Please?
That bike will look great parked next to my new trike... literally!
1ply is a coworker of mine. :)
Now, to "convert" the other 395 non-riders who work here.....

It's called a Horizontal Trackstand and all clipless riders eventually do one. Usually in front of lots of witnesses. ;)
Congratulations on the new bike.

Yeah, we've all done it at some point, I think. I've heard it referred to as the "Arte Johnson"

Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum, I'm thinking about getting a VFR5, and was wondering what you guys think about this bike?
I just want to use it to commute on regular paved roads, I'll be traveling considerable distances (about 30km a day) I was just wondering if this was a good quality bike? if this is a bike to be proud of?
I've searched the web for VFR5 reviews and hardly found anything... I would love to hear what you, the experts, think of it...
Thank you for your time :)

Oh ya. Was the bike injured during the fall?

Well...you're going to HAVE to get it because you've picked it as your username. It'd be pretty silly for "norco VFR 5" to have a Giant...

I don't know if it's the same company but Norco is a huge Chinese manufacturer of all sorts of things including, I guess, bikes. The specs look OK for an entry level hybrid bike and I suspect the quality is decent for the money, assuming you are getting the bike for $500 US or less. Since the VFR 5 is a 2006 model, it should definitely be discounted a good bit from list (which the info I found says was $700 Canadian). I'm sure it'll be a fine commuter, although it's hard to tell from the photo if it has rear eyelets for a rack. You'll definitely want a rack for commuting.
