Who else rides their tandem(s) Out-of-Phase? Comments/opinions; likes/dislikes.
We're OOPers since 1977, and yeah, we like it!

We are new to riding OOP, but absolutely love it. We ride 90 degrees OOP with captain in the lead. It has increased our average speed by at least 1mph and flattened out the hills. Cornering has not been a problem. It took a few times to get our OOP legs when we stood to power up hills, but now it comes as natural as when we were in phase. We are not concerned about how it looks to others which we feel is the main reason other teams don't try it. We love it and have no plans to go back to riding in phase. Count us as OOPers for life.
By the way, thanks to Rudy and Kay for all the good information in previous threads on this board.

Maybe we need to combine these threads -90 degrees angle between tandem front- and back cranks?

We ride both IP and OOP as both have their merits but have never been able to quantify a net performance improvement for one vs the other once we're both in good form. However, my sprinting & climbing style (bike thrower) has precluded OOP as our default set-up for aggressive rides / rallies. If I could clean-up my riding habits we would probably ride OOP more often, but that's not likely to happen. If we rode in less hilly terrain or were doing extensive touring, OOP might also be used more often.
At present, given that it's very early in the season and we're both struggling to get back into form, we're riding OOP. We'll see if we migrate back into phase as the season wears on.

we do at times.
We can not both stand when we are OOP. we only go less than 90 OOP. We lengthen our power stroke
IPC we can both stand.

I have been looking at a daVinci. Very Easy to switch between IP and OOP:)

I suppose we are since we just purchased a daVinci. Although we only have about 40 miles on it so far I do not feel qualified to comment on the IP vs. OOP topic. I have occasionally noticed that we are out of phase.

Rode a daVinci prototype 'bout a dozen years ago . . . interesting concept; told Todd we preferred being 90 OOP all the time. Hard to teach 2 old dogs new trix!
Must admit it was the smoothest shifting front der. ever of any tandem we've ridden, and with 4 cogs (chainrings?) to boot!
