Mountain Biking - Dual crown fork on a Trek Bruiser 2.

My friend want's to put a Dual crown fork on his Trek Bruiser 2. He is planning on putting on a Drop off Triple with 170 mm of travel. Wondering what your opinions are.




My opinion is that a dual crown fork should never be on a Hardtail. EVER. :rolleyes:

If your friend is looking on launching off pretty tall stuff then he should have spent money on a freeride bike, there are freeride hardtails out there but yes, as much as I love hardtails DH and FR are the only two disciplines where I think full suspension>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Hardtail, as far as DJ, Trials and XC go, well... It will make the front end a little bit heavyer but overall i think that it will be balanced out. the drop off tripple is also very plush and will sink in. just make sure he puts in on the 17" bruiser2. the 14.5 will make it more weak. and tell him not to put a rear 24" on no matter what. it would bee a good set up. but ive seen many hardtails with dual crowns. its up to you

I think it's ******** to put a dual crown fork on any hardtail, even a morphine. He needs to get a nice single crown fork instead.

I dont really know about how well it works, but I can attest to how stupid it looks.

I think it'd be OK as long as he doesn't go too big and doesn't keep the frame for more than a year. The handling is personal preference, I suppose.

I think there are almost as many hardtails around our area with dual crown forks as there are full suspension bikes with DCs- - must be a Pacific NW thing. I see no problem with this.

um, isn't it a bad idea to do a 170mm on a bruiser 2, considering stock fork is 130.

i thought that the frame wouldn't be able to handle it (unless it's a morphine or something), if you go over 30mm than stock.

anyway, i'd stick to the single crown if i were him.

Marzocchi Junior T
Marzocchi 888 (might be a bit too tall for your hardtail)
Manitou Sherman Slider (or have they discontinued them for 2006?)
