I been looking at getting my first full suspension bike and so far I've narrowed it down to two in my price range. The Giant Warp DS 2 or the Jamis Dakar. I've rode and like them both. What bike would you get? I don't race but would like one that is tough and will last rideing trails and small drops. What do you think?

To be honest, I think at that price range you'd be better off getting a hardtail - they'll be lighter and generally have better components for the price. However if you're sure you want a full- susser and that's your limit then I'd go for the one that fits best, and if they're from different shops, whichever shop seemed friendlier, so that you've got a good relationship with a store for tune ups, servicing and upgrades.

I have heard decent things about the warp. Problem is the parts will still break. Personally I would go with a ht. I have a general rule about duallie. 2000cdn or bust is my minimum unless it is used or exceptional deal. :)..

I ride a 2002 Warp DS1, I like it. I have other bikes for other means, but this is the work horse of my fleet. They changed how they built the frame, it is alot stronger now. So I would say go for the Warp.

I just put on reserve a 02 specialized enduro. The price was 1299 plus tax which came to a little over 1400. This bike last year retailed for about 16-1700 dollars so the drop in price was pretty good. What I would reccomend you do, if your set on getting a dualie is look for a 2002 model of a good FS bike. Some 02 bikes I would recomend that ive researched are the Kona Bear, Kona Kikapu, and the Enduro. You should be able to find some good deals on those bikes if your willing to spend around $1100-1200.
Also consider the other specialized FS bike such as the rockhopper and the stumpjumper. You could find models of those for around your price range. So if you want a FS bike, and want to stick around 1k more or less, then look and 2002 models. There are also some great HT's out there for that kinda money. The Haro Escape 8.3, recently reviewed by MBA recieved good marks. I would check that one out. There are many to choose from so I would check out MTBR.www.mtbr.com (http://www.mtbr.com)

SirBikealot,

My friend owns a Warp and is not too happy with it. His main complaints are that it is too heavy and that the quality of the parts that it comes with are not equal to those found on less-expensive hardtails. He also had trouble getting the suspension to dial in so that it would not be too active. He sold it and bought a Giant Rainier, which he likes very much. If you were definitely going to choose between these two bikes, I know that Mountain Bike Action? likes the Dakar lineup. Having never ridden one, I cant comment ont the weight. If I only had enough money to afford a Warp or Dakar, I'd go for a hardtail. Giants(like the Rainier) are a good bet and a great value. Many others also like the Specialized hardtail lineup. My opinion:For that amount of money, go for a hardtail or save a bit more first.

Something else you might consider, there is a super deal on the Yeti Kokopelli at Supergo. From the specs that they list, I don't think you can really find any downfalls on this ride. As for your other picks, I love Jamis bikes! I have a Coda and a Komodo and the quality is tops. Happy shopping.
