View Full Version : 2 flats within 15 miles? Need new tires?

Just got back in from a good loop with a buddy of mine on an Orbea. Hes 180 pounds, good rider, just had 1 rear and 1 front go down within 15 miles of each other. The bike has the stock treaded Michelin tires on it. Id say under 1000 miles.

What the heck? They seemed really soft but was aired to 100psi prior to the ride.

Any ideas?

Thanks

You're in the wrong forum, friend. You'd get more responses in Road, Mechanics, even Commuting.

BTW, what did the rims, tubes and tires look like after the flats? Punctures? Blowouts? Stem tears? Foreign objects? Brake pads improperly placed?

Bad luck, or maybe a shard of glass or metal still stuck in the tire.

sometimes the rimtape wasn't set properly or has broken down. That's always a good place to check when everything else has been eliminated.

I find when my tires are not inflated properly I get more flats, that is if the tires are in good repair.

What sizes are your tyres? You might want to try 25/28c combo at 110-120psi... Add in:

- kevlar-belted tyres
- Tuffy liners
- thick tubes
- Slime
- tyre-savers
