Heyo,

First post here and I'm just getting myself back into Mountain Biking after a 10 year hiatus. :)

To start off, I've just bought an '05 GT Avalanche 3.0 Disc and it comes equipped with Suntour XC-60's.

Would it be worth my while to drop around $70 and upgrade to some Judy TT's or am I wasting my time if there won't be much of a performance increase? I suppose I'm just harkening back to my days as a 13 year old when I dreamed of having some Rock Shox on my GT Outpost, but if they are much of a step up, I'd consider it. I'm not doing any serious stunts, just some offroad riding.

Any input is appreciated. Cheers!

I'm not familiar with the Suntour XC-60, but from my general familiarity with GT's entry level bikes and the Suntour brand, it would probably be a marginal improvement, but not likely to be worth the money. I'd say put some miles on it, learn where it's lacking, then upgrade when it starts to show signs of wear. You'll have gotten some of your money's worth out of it, and you'll have a better idea what you're looking for in a shock. It won't be fantastic, but it will take the edge of the bumps and help keep the wheel in contact in the ground in light offroad riding, which is what it's designed to do. Happy riding.

Definately don't spend the $70 to upgrade to Judy TT's (crappy fork). I suggest you beat the hell out of your current Suntour fork and upgrade it when it breaks or when you cannot stand it anymore. When it is time to upgrade, come back to the forum and ask for advice on what kind of fork to get. Ride hard.

$70... no, 40 bucks on eBay would be more like it.

After shipping to Canada, yes, $70+. :)

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll just beat the Suntour to hell and then go from there.

Cheers!
