i have to wait 3 weeks for delivery of my bike. I ordered 2 trek 4900's, but when they had to order my size, they said the wisconsin did not have any in their warehouse and that they were on the boat from overseas. It's going to take 3 weeks for it to get to wisconsin and then probably another couple of days for them to ship it out to Canada.

is this common? almost a month for a bike sounds crazy to me, and i was about to pay them today!

Three weeks to wait isn't too bad but I'll bet that three weeks stretches out to something a fair bit longer.
I ordered ( and paid for ) a Kona frame from my LBS in Nov 2003 and was told that it would take a couple of months to arrive because Kona didn't have any in stock. The frame finally arrived in Oct 2004.
Anyway the bike is nice although the wait didn't make it nicer.
Cheers, Dave

where in toronto did you order it?

anyhow, i didn't pay for my bike yet, and i told them that i would be out of the country from mid May to end of August, so if they can't make it, i can't buy the bike...so they'll have to figure something out.

he's right. you may want to shop around and find one on a shop floor. or look for another bike.

the dealer gave me quite a good deal for 2. i've called around and they're all selling the bike for $869-899cdn + tax. This bike shop is giving me 2 for 1,550 tax incl....so i'm probably going to wait it out. :)

but it does suck and i was a bit suspicious about having to wait 3 weeks.

Why are you getting two?

I had to wait over a month for my Trek 8500 to come in. It would have been even longer, but my LBS traded a Trek road bike to a shop in the US somewhere in exchange for mine. Hardtails are really not as profitable as FS, so they get pushed down the priority list pretty quick.

A month is nothing. I've waited longer than that for some hubs for some wheels I'm having built. I also recently wound up waiting several weeks for a compact crank. I've dealt with this particular LBS for years, and they normally get me things fast. However, once in awhile, there's an availability issue or a problem with a supplier.

The prices, service, and the fact that I get exactly what I wanted make the wait worthwhile. For instance, I paid less to have them order and install the compact crank mentioned above than I would have if I'd ordered it on the internet and installed it myself. They always tell me if I have to wait, so it's not a surprise.

...that they were on the boat from overseas.

Just another reason to buy American. Or Canadian. Or...well, you get the idea.

Why are you getting two?

one for my gf and one for myself. relationship has been a little on the rocks lately, hopefully this will get some quality time in, rather than arguing in the car. :)

i guess it's just me being new to this hobby, everyone in this forum thinks it's normal. hahaha..:p

and i thought most of the bikes in this price range were built overseas anyway?

I also waited months and months for a Kona. It seems to be a common problem.

he did (try to) buy american. the fact that no one but expensive butique places makes their own frames in the US anymore is his problem. even if he bought a norco, he might have still had to wait for the boat to come in from taiwan. (I don't know if norco off-shores their frame production, but it's a good chance they do)

I would think that with the cheap labour available overseas that almost all manufacturers make their frames in Taiwan/China etc. The only ones I can see keeping it here are the ones that start at $1000 for the frame.

I am very happy with my 4900. I just got one and it has been pretty nice. It should be worth the wait...especially if your getting a deal on it.

Check out www.bikes.com - Rocky Mountain Bikes. Handbuilt Canadian bikes complete with the tag of which employee built which component. I paid $800 Cdn for my Rocky RC-30.

The man who built my current bike says it may take him a couple of months to turn out a bike of a specific size as he works through his other orders. If he has the frame jig set to the size you need you might get the bike in a couple of weeks. The BLT he had in his tiny office/showroom fit and I had mine in 2 hours.:bday:

Perhaps this is your fortuitous opportunity to take the 7.3 FX's, if those are in stock in the right size.

they don't have the 7.3 fx disc in my size either. they would have to order them in again, and it would take about a week. SO...there really isn't much incentive for me to change my mind. besides, i just noticed someone at school has a 7.5fx...i can't....i can't...possibly park mine next to his...:p

can you find these prices online?

and would your Rocky RC-30 be equivelant to the 4900?
