Mountain Biking - useless but cool bling bling

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
useless but still pretty cool:D (not my bike...it is available at http://www.ninerbikes.com ) and i dig that Thomson stem, haven't seen that before either.

Why do you think there would be a problem with tightening the headset?

not, other than you have to remove the bottle cap to get to the preload bolt. Basically, do whatever you want, I just think it's entirely stupid.
that is the lamest ass advertising gimmick i've ever seen. i'm getting really tired of ads.
i hope all you ad execs burn in hell!

Given that fact, why then would any rational person type "great, just hope you don't have to tighten your headset."?

cause then you would have to remove the stupid bit you spent time putting there to get to a bolt that has a actual purpose. Again ENTIRELY STUPID and a total waste of time to make your bike look trashy.

So taking less than a second to remove the bottle cap and accessing the bolt is a big deal?
That's such a big deal that you would comment that "just hope you don't have to tighten your headset."?
Much ado about nothing but if illogical whining gets your rocks off, as it apparently does, have at it.
As long as its not permanant, I would go for a corona one. Would be a good joke and fun piece on my DH rig

Hey DnA,I'm diggin' your sig.
When I was 16 (longer ago than I care to remember actually) I had a Budweiser shirt that I was convinced made me look cool. In hindsight I'm pretty sure it just made me look like a punk, but the point is that teenagers are drawn to anything they're not supposed to have. So while I may agree NOW that it's pretty lame, I can see their appeal to throwing a beer cap on their stem from their perspective. As a teen, looking cool FAR outweighs being functional. So... If they wanna replace something with a beer cap, or put an "Oakley Thermonuclear Protection" sticker on their car windshield :) I say let it roll and tell them to have a good time!

Jeesh, how often do you remove your stem? I think it looks fine and if someone wants to spend 30 seconds to remove a decorative cap when they do fork maintenance once a year, I kinda think it's their perogative.

Give me a Dr Pepper cap and I'll be sold!!!!! I'm personally surprised that Coke isn't in on this action. I can see bottlers at bike shows giving these things away like candy as a marketing item.

You yourself said it was useless in the thread title. Just trying to defend my opinion against E-tugs that think they always have to be right. I could really care less if you feel like wasting your time on something as stupid as that. And for the record, I don't take anything on the internet serious. It's just funny to see people get ruffled up over someone else's opinion.:p

A Budweiser shirt definitely wouldnt make anyone look cool...would make one look like they have poor taste in beer. ;)
I am quite a few years older than legal drinking age.
If i were to add this bit to my bike, it wouldn't be to look cool, no one would ever see it as no one else rides my bike. Just a way to personalize my cookie cutter bike.

I don't really think this is marketed to teenagers, because most teenagers who drink, don't drink guinness. If you put a pot leaf on it, then teenagers will like it.

I would'nt do that either:rolleyes: The first time I saw it done I thought it was cool for about 10 minutes. Then I came to the realization that it is dumb. Do it if you want, it is your bike. The effort involved in doing it get's you no where except to making your bike look silly. I like beer as much as the next guy, but bottle caps belong in 2 places. On the bottle, or in the garbage.
Just in case anyone has missed it vw addict does not like the idea of this product.

If you are really a fan of Hank Rearden, or Ayn Rand (which I am not), then why do you just sit and watch people flail? That story and her ideas are about the virtue of productivity. You have contributed nothing to this post, not even your own opinion about the original post. Thats not productivity, its a waste of time.

I wonder if it has a disclaimer that says don't look at your bottle cap while riding.
willtsmith_nwi, and NoF3ar, Y'all mentioned wanting a Dr. Pepper cap. Check out The Dublin bottler (http://www.dublindrpepper.com/) for Dr. Pepper. They still make it with sugar not that corn syrup.

guys, you can put any metal drink cap you want on the damned thing.
i've had one on my Bianchi roadie since October and am using a Guinness cap, 'cause i drink a lot of Guinness. but i had plenty of other choices; i even had a thread asking folks' opinions.
here was my cap shortlist, btw:

what you need is a cap from a bottle of maudite. the label has a devil and a flying canoe. the cap might too. don't get any better than that.
you could put banana stickers on your bikes too. Just not over the stem cap bolt. You don't want to upset anyone.

Chickenfeces, "unproductiveness to the thread"? What are you whining about now? Just as there is no requirement that you make even semi-intelligent posts, there is no requirement that everyone has to consider my posts "productive" before I can post.
I think my post was QUITE productive. It helped vw addict post a bunch of amusing, confused nonsense. The fact that my posts are directly responsible for your latest bit of silliness is also evidence of how productive my contribution was, and is.
If fragile folks like you are constantly annoyed by/threatened by my posts why don't you save yourself by adding me to your ignore list?

Of course you think your posts are productive, thats why in most threads you post in multiple people are calling you out on your stupidity. You wittle silly cat you!! Its obvious you think your allways right, even when everyone around you thinks your an idiot you still think you can explain your way out of your brainless posts.
I may be not to knowledgable about bicycling, but I do at least make attempts to post on topic and to help whatever questions people have.
I would add you to my ignore list, but everyone once in awhile when you do post something positive I do enjoy reading it. Plus I wuv topics where you put your foot in your mouth.

F3arful, for numerous examples of "brainless" posts, just look back on your "contributions." Holy "pot, kettle, black" Batman!
In this thread I merely questioned something that was posted that was amazingly goofy ("great, just hope you don't have to tighten your headset"). While not as earth-shatteringly stupid as many of your posts, it was still funny.
I'm really looking forward to your next round of whining! I'm sure it will have me laughing at you even more.
p.s. How can you possibly claim that "everyone" thinks something? Really, posting that kind of idiocy just makes you look even more dense, amazing as that is at this point.

Thats your problem right there, you do that constantly and I would classify that as annoying, goofy, and silly. At least for someone your age. Trust me, I've been laughing at your "silliness" and your inadequacy in understanding what whining is.
