Foo - Should I let my little brother go to a concert at a nightclub?

My younger brother, 14, wants me to take him and 7 of his friends down to the Chop Suey lounge/nightclub in Seattle (near the Velo Bike Shop) to see an upcoming all-ages concert by Rooney, a rock/pop band. Probably, alcohol will be served to people of legal drinking age; there's a bar and all. Is there anything I should know about? Are these events recommended for kids? I don't want him to do anything stupid, and I dont wanna get held responsible for anything that happens to his friends. Only two or three of his friends (and only one of the girls) have ever been to a real rock concert before. I'm just a little nervous, and not sure what exactly "all ages" means.

I wouldn't. If something happens, you'd have to answer to the parents. Or better yet, why don't you ask the parents if they would let you?

If it's advertised as 'all ages', the club will be very careful to separate the drinkers from the underaged, if they value their liquor license. I wouldn't worry about it. If the band sucks, that's another story, how much time and money do you want to waste on bad live music?

+1

Went to hundred or so concerts before turning 21 and always got shuffled to the kiddie section. No biggie. At Mississippi Nights in St. Louis, this always meant getting right up to the stage, which was optimal! That danged "UNDER 21" stamp was quite the badge of honor the next day.... "Yeah, I caught Bob Mould last night" or "I was about three feet from Harriett Wheeler of the Sundays last night..." Ahh... to have 1989 and 90 back....

Beef... At least take your brother to the show. The other kids are on their own, unless their parents give you some serious command of the mob. I always dug it when my brother, who is 9 years older than me, took me to a show when I was still in my teens. That's good bonding.

I've been going to shows since I was 13. I think I turned out alright.

Take him.

Take ya brother but not the mob, that's too many to be responsible for. Your brother will have a blast though and like Cylowe says, it's great bonding.

I wouldn't take any of the friends. You say you don't want to be held responsible for anything that happens to the friends. Well, if something happens, say one of the friends perhaps gets some booze, or wanders off with some new 'friends' you will be held responsible. Take your brother not the friends.

Its you job as the older brother. Parents are supposed to be parents, brothers are supposed to help the little ones learn the ins and outs of being devients :D...

Another vote for "take your brother, not his buds" here.

Do keep in mind that even if you don't take the other kids, they are going to tell their parents something along the lines of:

"But mom, you know Billy's big brother Jim. He's going to be there and he'll make sure nothing happens to us."

Remember that, when the parents start calling wanting to know why little Justin is late getting home from the show.;)
