How much do dispatchers make at a courier company? I know they must make more than the messengers, but how much more?

Not necessarily. When I started dispatching I made less than I would average on the road. I'm sure that varies depending on who you're working for.

why would you want to sit behind a desk all day?
because some make like 200 bucks a day. those days are proably over for most of us on the road.

I started dispatching because I was burnt out on the road after about eight years. Definitely not for the money.
Yeah, when I was messengering, our dispatcher was the boss, or one of the veteran messengers a few days a week. Normally, they take the ones who are more burnt out on the road already and offer them something comparable to what they would make as a good messenger.
However getting that comparable pay was heavily dependent on the fact that they knew the routes, messer's, and areas well enough to dispatch wisely.

I work for IMO one of the better messenger companies in New York and the dispatchers don't make close to what a good messenger makes. There is one head dispatcher for the bikers and he makes an ok amount. Everyone else definitely took a noticeable pay cut to work dispatch. They offered me a dispatcher position on one particularly cold winter day, after a particularly bad accident I had and I still wouldn't go for it because of the pay.

Rancid - how is the messengering in Hawaii? Can you make a decent living as a messenger there?
Well, you can make a little money, but the thing you have to keep in mind is how high cost of living is out here. I did more for the sake of doing it then for a paycheck (full time navy with lots of time on my hands), but every messenger pretty muvh has a second job. There is also only one company here though, and only enough clientle really for one company (and the boss is kind of ******y). I made at the top of my game, full time about 250-350 a week. Thats about 20 runs (because there just aren't that many runs) a day at about 3 dollars a run in one main zone. Of course multi zone travels and rushes pay better but yeah....I tihnk thats about what I made. Its a small operation out here though. Maybe 4-5 riders on the road at a time.

It sounds like pay is pretty similar to what it is here in New York, but there is more work here so you can do more runs. And you can always come in early or stay late if you need a little extra cash. I definitely wouldn't mind living in Hawaii, but I have heard that it is very expensive, even more than NY and it seems like everyone I know that lived in Hawaii had a second job. Thanks for the info.
