A co-worker is looking for a road bike for his wife.
I noticed on Sunday the local auction had a small framed road bike setting in the line of items to be sold, but the fence was locked so I could not get a closer look. On Monday I went to the auction to get a closer look and was amazed that it had the same bar tape that I had bought on close-out and had used on four different bikes. I looked closer and relized that the it was the same size as the schwinn sprint(1986 1020 lugged steel) I gave a co-worker a year ago, THEN It hit me THIS IS THE BIKE I GAVE AWAY. The co-worker had moved away about six months ago. How I the bike got to the auction I have no clue but I bought it back for $2.50. I looked it over realized how much I have improved my bar wraping and cable routing in the last year. I think I will attach the old sprint to a large balloon with a note and see how far it will come back from next time ( No seas or great lakes in Kansas to cast it afloat)

Does this happen to anyone else?

The closest I came was that of donating a bike to the Salvation Army, and seeing it outside of the local SA rehabilitation center within a week. Being actually used was a nice feeling, since I gave it away because I didn't ride it. The fact that it is making a recovering addict's life a little easier is a bonus.

I hope the second person you give your bike to will get good use out of it.

Funny this topic should come up today; last night I called on an ad in our craigslist for two leather saddles -- one a Brooks B72, the other of unknown pedigree, for $35. I went over to San Francisco to pick them up and damned if the 'unknown' saddle wasn't the very same one I got off an old Astra and put on a Flandria I sold last year. The seller said he found them at a flea market...
