Here are the specs

1999 Burley Rumba Softride.

True Temper Tandem chromoly, Burley Exclusive
Touring Tandem with performance road setup

This Bicycle measures 57 tall and 56 long. the captain must ride a 56 /57 cm bike to ride this tandem

The rear is very adjustable my stoker is around a 50cm and fits good.

Wheels Velocity dyad
front 40 hole on a velocity hub disk compatable
rear 48 hole on a shimano tandem hub drum compatable

Drive train
Ultegra shifters (Flight deck compatable)
Scram chains
Ultegra front Derailer
LX Deore Rear Derailer
Sugnoi XD tandem cranks
52 42 30 x 34/11 9 sp rear

Richey Logic bars and headset
Avid 10 single digets with travel agents.
IRC 700/30 tandem tires

History on this bicycle

Last March It was aquired off ebay as a almost new frame and fork. It is believed that this bike was used as a demo it only had one noticeable scrach on the down tube. It still has only normal scraches and has never been wrecked or dropped

The Plan was to build this bicycle up slowly as I found deals on used parts. Well The only deal I found was a rear derailer a friend gave me other than that. I had lost patience and built it will all new Parts. It should also be noted that once it was assembled a very respected bike shop gave it a final tune up.

My Stoker and I completed several long tours with this bicycle as well as local club rides and we had a blast, so much fun that we want a new tandem. Total distance we put on this tandem is around 2000 miles computer only shows around 1800 I was not installed for several weeks after the madien cruise.

This Tandem Rides like it is on rails with the real feel of steel.

After adding up all of the recipts I have found that im into this bike for 1700 not really a big deal in the world of tandems. I have seen less equiped softride burleys go for 1250.00 on ebay.

Advice comments and suggestions welcome
thanks

I made a minor adjustment to your post, to bring it in line with forum guidelines. Feel free to put a note in your signature that your tandem is for sale.

Any offers or discussion of price should be done by email or PM. This thread should only be used for offering opinions as to the value.

The 'new' price for that full bike in '99 was $2,000. Your asking price leaves you some bargaining room. This seems to be a low-mileage tandem with minor blemish.
If somebody really is looking for a Softride 'beemer', this would be a good buy. Softride is no longer making beams, so these will become scarcer, unless someone is willing to buy th rights to the c/f beam manufacture.

The stoker bars scare me. As far as value, no one buys or builds a bike hoping it will magically retain its value. You've built a complete tandem for probably 1/2 what our frame cost. But look at the value of ownership, and you can't lose on this one, no matter what you get for it.

Yes zona it leaves me some bargaining room (have been looking into airzona tandems I take it you are very happy with you).

I did buy a rebuild kit for the beem and a new seat bracket (to be included)

stoker bars are ok they are a little closer to her now this was a early pic my rear fits with about 2inches of room. Ive only brushed it a few times and I know where its at.

yes the tandem has paid for itself.

we always have someone to ride with at the same pace
we enjoy the sport and adventure
we enjoy the long talks
we enjoy the fitness
It makes both of us feel connected to each other's lives. (I work mid nights and she teaches)
It has with out a doubt made a differance for the good in our marriage.

Your asking price leaves you some bargaining room.

What is your asking price? I think it should sell for about $800 to $1,000

Assuming ~$375 for the beam upgrade based on Co-Motion's pricing + the $1,699 base price of the current Rumba gives you an approximate replacement cost of $2,074. Based on that number, the range would look something like this....

$1,107 for the high-point; an outstanding example in near-new condition
$ 945 for the mid-point for a good tandem in good shape.
$ 747 for the low-point for a well-used tandem.

Then again, a second hand tandem is worth what anyone will pay for one. Regardless of what you feel you need to get out of the tandem, to anticipate "dickering" you might want to pump in an extra 10-15% to what ever price you're actually willing to sell it for. Y

our biggest challenge is finding that someone out there looking for a beam-bike, as they are a bit of a niche-market item within the tandem range. However, as far as beam-bikes goes, yours would be a good value as Co-Motion's beam-bike -- the Cappuccino; a Speedster with the Alsop beam -- goes for about $4,350. As far as I know, that's about the only "stock" beam bike on the market. All other beam bikes are special order / custom jobs so even if you were working from an entry level premium tandem from any builder that offers the beam option, you'd be looking at a lot more $$ for a beam bike.

Just my .02.
