Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Unpopular Opinion: anodized bling is a waste of money

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

can someone explain to me why spending more money to have something a certain color is better for your riding experience.

Well, it doesn't make the ride any better, per se.
But why the **** do you care what other people do?

To me it makes sense, most people have a different kind of connection with their ride than most things. There is nothing better than when you are completely satisfied with the way your bike looks, plus doesn't it feel nice when people make a double take when they see your bike?

Yeah, if you have the money and want your hubs to match your whatever, go for it.
To me, that's part of the fun of building your own bike - completing the overall look.

Would it make it any better if they were all mismatched anodized parts picked up because they were cheaper?

You have to have something to try to match your tires to. Duh.

ha ha ha...true, true. to the OP, some people want a ride that rides. some people want a ride that rides and looks nice. and in that category is also a group of people who think nice looking includes anodized stuff, among others.

speaking of anodized bling, I used to have one of these for my raceday mtb ride cept mine was red/blue/yellow/green and this guy has an orange I never saw, $320 in something like 97 or so, worth it too, shifted beautifully and complimented my otherwise colour coordinated 4000$ blue n chrome Breezer Thunder.

miss my ol breezer (sigh)

General response:
I would rather see someone matching their rims to their hubs than going into WalMart to buy pistol ammo or pricing out SUVs.

Back the **** off already people. Your forced sense of individuality is crushing.

I think that riding something which is aesthetically pleasing does enhance the riding experience.

Man, I miss that old anodized mountain ish.

One day, I'll have a Yeti A.R.C. with a matching Ringle Moby Post, SuperBubba hubs, and a Magic Motorcycle crank. One of these days.

I thought this kind of behaviour wasn't allowed in Canadia!

also, even though rasta MTBs are gay as hell, a red/green/gold FG would be sweet.

Damn, you guys are really dense, it goes as follows in regards to anodzing and speed, slowest to fastest.

Splatter Paint
Black
Blue
Green
Yellow
Pink
Purple
Red
Rasta Colors

So if you have a rasta color bike with rasta colored anodized gear you're the fastest. What you don't see on bikes being ridden really fast that seemingly have no color is that the bearing are all rasta colored. So yes, different colors = different speeds.

Anybody remember the anodized canti brake cable hangers that were shaped like peace signs? I was surfing the web the other day, and found a company that sells them as pendant on leather necklaces.

I went pub crawling with some of my brother's friends. One guy had an old school mtb bike, complete with blue ano bars/bar ends, and was still rolling on 26" tioga comp III's. I thought two things... cool old school, and thank god it wasn't purple.

Clearcoat over naked metal, paradoxically, is the slowest. Unless it's titanium, which I've just learned is really rasta colored.

Lies! If I go from your previous post, I've got fast steering, the center of the bike is about average, and the chainstays are pretty quick too.

Hmm. Maybe this isn't working out so well.

well it would be a waste of money for me, because I don't actually like the way it looks, but I have spent, and will spend money on my bike for purely aesthetic reasons. It's the last consideration for me, but it still is a consideration. For instance I wouldn't put red tires on my green bike because every time I looked at it I would think of Christmas trees. I still have the gold anodized Shimano 600 cranks I bought in the 6th grade for my BMX bike. In fact every part I bought for that bike was either black or yellow anodized. I loved that bike.

It's that final step to personalization.
Anyone can buy phil wood hubs, a chris king headset or whatever.
Poweder coating/anodizing is really the only avenue for true personalization.
