Hey there guys.

I'm not completely ******** (approaching), but excuse my ignorance here for asking the following. 2 days ago, I finally got my 03' BH Comp. It's spec'd with the 03 DJ2, and It's a very adjustable fork... however. I'm NOT understanding why one leg is COIL.. and the other leg is AIR!?

Could someone please explain what this is all about?

Also.. the fork (I realize it needs to break in) is SOFT.. yes.. but it's not as "squishy" as my 01' Zocchi' Z3-Air was. Will this fork "break in" and become squishy also? I weigh 160LBS, and it takes me quite a bit of effort to push the fork all the way down, even with very little "preload" in the coil leg, and very little AIR in the other leg.

Also.. WHICH leg has the rebound adjustment (it's internal)... and could someone PLEASE explain to me how to do this? The marzocchi Manual shows the ROD TOOL (which I have) being inserted into ONE of the legs.. and turned right or left to adjust it.... however it doesn't say WHICH leg it is... so if someone could please explain that to me, it'd be a huge thank you.

THanks in advance...

-Matt

I can't answer all of your questions. But the dj's are renowned for their stiffness. If you had done or do a search you will find the main thing people say about dj's are they are STIFF. They are not meant to be plush as they are built for one BIG hit instead of lots of inconsistant hits (such as a trail). They are a fantastic fork but really only good for one thing. Try putting in the lightest springs and lowering the oil level. That should soften the ride quite a bit. But this will of course ruin the purpose of these forks. You might wanna take a look at buying the Z1's.

The air side is to simply assist the coil side. Maybe to add some stiffness. Without a lot of reading I think the air side is your preload adjust is it not? Also having one side spring and one sid air will save on weight while not sacrificing strength (we all hope).

As for how to adjust the rebound. The pic is usually accurate. Look which leg the manual is working on and try that :)...Check section 5.5 it is pretty self explanatory. This happens to be one of the better manuals that marz has done I think after this read.

Anyways hope that helps a bit. Cheers.

The 2003 Marzocchi DJ 2 is dual coil springs with air assist. The standard air pressure setting is 20 to 35 psi. You can take away or add air in order to increase or decrease the forks "stiffness," instead of switching springs. It is a open bath dual coil SSV fork. To adjust the rebound simply remove the air caps insert te hex key and either open or close the valves.
The DJ 2 is a big hit fork made for jumps and drops etc. Therefore it does not have the feel of a XC fork such as your prior Z3 Air.

Good thing you edited that hunter....the oil has nothing to do with the forks feel and is only there for lubrication?:D
