Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I purchased a 19 inch specialized mtb frame from someone off ebay. after recieving the frame I realized that the head tube had two cracks in it, so I faced with a dilemma; should I ask the seller for a refund (unfortunately I paid with a money order...) or should I contact specialized to see if they will replace the frame? (is it covered under any warrenty?) I'm also not sure what year this frame is (can someone identify it from the pic?)
oh well not sure what to do, so I figured I'd come here first.

Do both.
contact the seller and ask for a refund- most likely they won't give one. No insurance through mail?
Specialized has a crash replacement program but it just allows you to buy a frame or bike at cost in exchange for your damaged frame so you will have to dish out a couple hundred more for that option, but you get a new bike at least.
those cracks are from the guy slamming the front wheel into something or landing hard from a big drop. Definitely not shipping damage. Don't forget to give him a bad rating for selling it.
Dude, what a bummer. There's got to be a way to get your money back for that. I can't believe somebody would sell something ith that big a crack in it. Tell the seller you're going to sue! Give the guy a terrible rating at ebay for sure.

it's funny too, the guy sold it to me with a set of rigid forks, he took the forks out and packaged them seperately from the frame, so it should have been obvious when it packed it, as the cracks are easy too see (I spotted them within a few minutes of looking at the frame.) oh well

Wow...thats terrible! You should give that guy terrible feedback, and tell people to never buy from him. I dont think he could have not noticed those cracks.:(
Dude, You got http://www.westernfireandsafety.com/ind%20fire%20hose.jpged Demand your money back and destroy his seller rating.

Don't give negitive feed back if the guy returns your money.
Aslo, if he does not give your money back you can file a fraud report with Ebay. Supposedly Ebay will go after him and try to get your money back for you. To sell on Ebay you need to give them a cc# just incase you do screw some one over.
I would aslo double check the auction and see if he said that the frame is in good condition. If he mentioned anything about the craks then you are screwd. If not then you should be able to get a refund.
Good luck.

Very creative Raiyn :)
VegasCyclist- don't trash the frame if Specialized won't warranty it (I bet they won't). That can be TIG or MIG welded easily. You know on ebay's home page there is a link called "safe harbor". Look into that. I would give a bad rating if you can't get your money back. But if not, do the safe harbor thing, get your new frame welded, and figure the rest is "tuition".

Well I dono about that, I think he should give him negative feedback even if his money gets returned. I mean.....he must be one of the most oblivious people on ebay.
