BMX - spine to deck at skatepark

At this skatepark by my house there is like a three foot spine and then a 7 foot gap to a quarterpipe. I want to jump the spine over the gap and up onto the top of a 7 foot quarter pipe. I have seen pictures of mountain bikers and bmxers doing the it at the skatepark. Any advice or should I just pedal like hell?

...im assuming since its only 3 feet this spine isnt gonna shut you that straight up.

helmets don't really make me feel invincible. Full motocross gear would but that would be way too heavy to wear and way to hot.

Full motocross gear would make me look like some *** mountain biker.
