Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - comfy shorts

and i dont mean lycra. im looking for a durable comfy pair of shorts best for riding. there was a post on here that had a link to some awesomeness but i cant find it!!! ive used the searc function to find the specific pair of shorts but i dont remember the name of the thread or the brand of shorts or whatever. so anyways. can you suggest comfy messenger shorts or something?

Giboyeux has a pair (don't know if they're these exact ones) of PI shorts and he wears them all the time; with tights in the winter.

Get some mountain bike shorts that come with a seperate padded liner on sale somewhere like Nashbar or Performance or Sierra Trading Post , toss out the outer shorts, then wear the padded liner under some cut offs. Or just buy some padded briefs, whatever is cheaper. I had some old Canondale baggy mountain shorts which weren't bad but the liners under cut off Target nylon/cotton cargo pants work great.

Bike shorts are best for riding. Buy some freakin' lycra and wear it under your favorite pair of regular shorts.

I love how far those product descriptions will go to avoid talking directly about the 'nads:

"Seamless 3D Race chamois prevents possible friction points while providing necessary padding in key areas."

I'd be way more inclined to buy ones where they just said, "These won't chafe your rig or leave you with ED, we promise."

Not everyone wants to look like they're dancing for nickels for the local divorcees, y'know.

i saw someone post on here about some messenger shorts that were more like cargo shorts but they had extra padding in the highest areas of wear. im looking for something similar.

The shell is pretty much indestructible; none of this thin flaccid crap you find most baggy mtb-style shorts. The area just below the waistline is lined with flex fabric. The seat is double-lined and reinforced.

No chamois (which I prefer around the city). Low-profile compression straps for a fit perfectly tailored by... you! They're on sale now for $38 bux. Can't beat 'em for longevity, comfort and fit. They don't look half bad either. :o

Edit: Oh yeah - and cutoff BDU pants are my favorite shorts outside of my Under The Weather pants.
