I twisted my ankle on Tuesday this week pretty bad. Its still pretty sore and big. I've never injuried my ankles before and just wondering if anyone else has and how long it took for them to recover. BF won't let me get on the bike until it looks better and he wants me to ride the trainer first. I'm sad cause the weather in Colorado right now is BEAUTIFUL.

I have been icing it at night and elevating it as well, I'm wearing a ankle brace at work.
THIS REALLY SUCKS, so any advice you may have would be great!!

Ride all you want. The downward push of the foot will have no ill effects. The swelling is your tendons and if theres blood pooling on the lower outside of the ankle it will later turn purple the yellow the the swelling will leave. Its hard but you should elevate it on ice for as long as you can.

Im a pro at this, I need major tendon surgery but #1 I dont want to be put to sleep again and #2 my calf muscles finally look like sculpted like I have always wanted them to look. 6 weeks in a cast will make it look like a hotdog, long and skinny.

Check out this thread that I replied to from another forum member who had the same problem......

Good Luck

I twisted my ankle badly a little while ago, it swelled up huge and gave me a limp for a while but it hurt more walking than riding the bike. I was riding again within a couple days but my ankle wasnt back to normal for a couple weeks.

Thanks guys.
So it won't re-injury my ankle to get on the bike?? This is good to know I will take it easy though.

Yeah, listen to your body though. If it tells you to stop, dont push it.

Call a large animal vet and tell him you need some DMSO for your horse...rub a little on and be healed within a couple hours

As long as it doesn't hurt, riding your bike is good for it - it will keep the blood moving and ankle loose, which will help you heal.

Okay, it might hurt a little, but it shouldn't really hurt afterwards.

Before you ride, may sure you can safely unclip with the injured ankle. Don't ask how I know that

I rode yesterday, it was totally fine. The swelling has finally went away now, all I have is some light brusing. It didn't hurt at all to get out of the saddle or anything else. Thanks everyone. Now I can get back to my normally riding schedule. :)
