I've got stronglight cranks, and while I like the cranks themselves just fine, the ring sucks. Its not especially round, and I end up with a significant amount of play when trackstanding, which is annoying. My cogs and chain are 1/8," so I'm left with two options

-use a road ring, preferably an older one with no pins and ramps, in 3/32"

-try to find another 1/8" track ring

if I use the road ring, will I be increasing my risk of chain throw? Does anybody else make a 130 bcd track ring? I don't race (at least not seriously), so "stiffness" is an abstract quality to me. I'm mostly interested in something that rides smoothly and nicely, and allows for trackstands with no wobble. I may get another crank someday, but I've got other bike-related priorities ahead of that.

I have the Spécialités TA chainring, I am fairly happy with it.

Yeah? Is it quite round? Does it tension evenly?

If you go the way of a 3/32" chainring, check out the Salsa chainrings. Good stuff.

yeah my new stronglight chainring isnt very round either, but i've just spent a lot on the whole shebang and i dont want to drop another 40-50 on a chainring

I might have a chance to pick up some fairly recent (look to be 90's) Stronglight road cranks. Do the road rings have the same issues? If I snag these they will be too cheap for it to me much of an issue to buy a new ring if needed. Just curious I guess.

The lowly rocket ring is another option. No ramps or pins or anything. 48 and 47t are like $5 right now at dans comp. I have a couple, they're as round as anything out there.

I ordered a cheap road chainring off nashbar back in August and it came in a Stronglight bag. It was not very round.

why would roundness matter especiallymuch for a road ring? I'm a biopace fan personally

Because it will be used in a fixed/ss project.

I have a Salsa ring on my SS. It was cheap, round, and I like it. I run a 1/8" chain and it seems fine, but I'm guessing it's more of an issue with fixed?

DansComp.com has cheepo 3/32 that works with 110 & 130.
Black and sort of primative but at about 10.00 per ring so what ?
I run a 1/8 chain with no problems too........

The Danscomp one seems to be a rocket ring.

I'm not too impressed with the quality of the machining on mine.
Some of the teeth vary in thickness.

Sadly, I emailed the local guys, Blackspire about making a 130 - 1/8 chainring, and they said:
"We don't make them in road pitch"
