Gross. There is a 78 year old man that does the Monday night recovery ride that has legs like this. When you ride behind him you can't help but watch the huge bags of blood jiggle like jello.
No wonder nobody can follow him!

Great post! Now I've found a way to reduce my appetite so I can lose the lbs I need in order to climb better.
ok, so why does he have veins that pop out so much.

I have this on my left leg. Definitely not as bad as Hincapie, but few bumps
I think vascularity is cool in moderation. But that looks like a 24-inch garter snake crawled up someone's arse and got lost.

It's rumored that in lieu of tea leaves, UCI officials will occassionaly read Hincapie's veins.

That's what the alien embryo just below the surface of the skin wants you to think...

ok, so what makes peoples' legs get like this?
25,000 miles a year for 20 years straight
will do it

If he wears athletic socks that are too tight, he'll probably pass out...

It doesn't happen to everyone though.

Not at all.
He has a problem with varicose veins for a while.

Blood flow is constricted somewhere so the body makes new "routes".
They can also be hereditary. Sometimes they happen for no reason.
I have a small one on my right leg from crossing my legs too much.

Saw a guy in his late 60's snag one on a bleacher at a basketball game and he damn near bled to death.
My dad was the trainer and treated the guy until the ambulance arrived.

Sean Yates (a former teammate of Hincapie's at Motorola, currently serving on Discovery's staff) was also known for having legs that looked like that.

Yeah and with .006% body fat!
Blood flow is constricted somewhere so the body makes new "routes".
.
Veins are a low pressure system, so they use one way valves to prevent backflow. The weakening of these valves is what causes varicosities.

All of you are wrong. Hincapie's small intestines are actually in his leg.
I swear, i read it on the internet.

Ivan's legs look like he's just overheated - horses look this way after race or a hard workout. Hincapie's look like that no matter what he is doing...
