Assos rims?

Received a beautiful Somec track bike today. It had black aero rims sayin "swiss made" and "assos" on them in minimalistic white letters. On classicrendezvous.com they only say it was one of the first light weight aero rims. Does anyone have any more info regarding these rims? Any experiences with them?

Yes they are good rims. mine are laced on Dura Ace 7600 hubs , bladed spokes.

Nice rims, but quite narrow and a pretty deep tire bed. They don't fit wide tires all that well. A 19 mm tire is probably ideal for them. Nice rims to cork if you have the time and inclination.

Yeah deep, glue get down there . You can get some wide tires on them as i used Conti's Giro on them for a short time but Ganwell works better 19mm or18mm.

Thanks guys! The Vittoria Pista CS tubies that came with the rims are way too delicate to use on the street so I'm looking to buy something more street worthy for my Italian beauty. What's your opinion? I want classic italian tubulars that works with the bikes time period (80's), not too expensive and durable.

Vittoria are made in Thailand now.

Finding old ones may be hard but not impossible. Check them before buying.

Good pick up. Very good rims in their day, which would have been mid 80's.

I could have had a pair built with Sun Tour Superbe Pro hubs off a six day rider I know - a mate got them instead when I passed them up. He kept them for 'big races', liked them and had no problems with them.

I've talked to diffrent people here in Sweden now and I've come to the conclusion that I'll get a really cheap tire, a Schwalbe Milano 19mm, which will serve my purpose and not ruin my economy. Hopefully there will be a real velodrome built in Sweden and then I'll get some Pista tubies but for now I have to accept that this one will only see the street asphalt, but it will be warm and dry asphalt in summer which will be kind to my wheels.
