Anyone know good tours starting from Manhattan? Day tours of 30-50 miles would be good, or maybe multi-days, but nothing too far--I'm not biking the whole Eastern Seaboard here. Naturally, the less traffic, the better.

Any good experiences would be appreciated.

For an organized event, Bike New York is coming up May 7. Around 42 miles and hits all 5 boroughs. Fun but crowded and, as a result, not real fast. http://www.bikenewyork.org/

There is also the Manhattan Greenway. http://www.nyc.gov/html/edc/pdf/greenway_mapside.pdf

Or outside of the city, http://www.roberts-1.com/bikehudson/index.html

Just follow the Hudson, north. The West Point area is beautiful.

I've done Bike New York. What a Blast! 30,000 cyclists taking over New York--with roads closed to traffic. Don't miss it if you're in the big apple.

You might consider taking the ferry from NYC to Atlantic Highlands (NJ)... then ride south along the NJ seashore. The ride is all flat and goes through various beach towns. You can return to Atlantic Highlands and go back to NYC via the same ferry.
