I couldn't stand it any longer..I had my lbs order a new bike for me! I rode my heavy hybrid with friends yesterday and couldn't stand how much lighter my friend's Bianchi was! I'd been wanting a really good road bike and a mountain bike for a while now (mb will have to wait for now!). Here she is!

Natophelia,

I actually have had one (Specialized Sequoia) for a few weeks now. I LOVE IT!! With the holidays, the saddle time has been somewhat limited, but I was able to get a 30 mile ride in Saturday. I was looking for a versatile bike and I think this is it. It's light and fast, but I can also pull my daughter around in a trailer. I have been running errands with it and am pretty happy with the heel clearance with my Arkel Lady Bug pannier. I wish I had a little more clearance back there, but that may be a rack problem. I am really digging the intermediate brake levers on the flats of the bar. I didn't think I would like them at first, but I do! I got the 105-equipped version. Wish I could have gotten the Ultegra, but ....Anyway, the bike is very comfortable. The gel insert thing on the carbon fork must work. It feels very smooth. The suspension seatpost is nice too. You don't really notice that you're riding on a suspension post, but it smooths the road out at the same time. The seat is particularly comfortable for me. I have been riding recumbents for the past few years so my butt isn't really that conditioned for upright riding. After the 30 miles Saturday (and about 5 more Saturday night pulling the trailer) I had no pain at all. The only negative I can think of is some foot strike on the front wheel when turning. I guess I like this bike more than I realized!!! I didn't intend to gush so much, but I really hadn't stopped to think about the bike since I bought it. (One more gush...the price ain't bad either!!

Yes, fked, nice price!! I told the guy who was helping me that I'd cap off at 2500 and his eyes almost popped out of his head! I fully expected to have to pay that much for what I wanted! Transarkansas, here we come (though my bike may have to go ahead without me :D )!!

fked, the Sequoia also has a gel insert underneath the bar tape, just in case you haven't noticed. I actually had a chance to ride the 105 Sequoia when the rep came through, it was a great bike, but not quite what I was looking for. The gel insert in the fork is actually an elastomer, kind of like they use in some suspension forks, and it I would agree that it makes a difference in the forks smootheness. Anyway, Specialized has a killer lineup for 2003, they beat Trek at every pricepoint I've checked so far.

fubar5,

Yea, I did notice. I wasn't sure if it was under the tape or incorporated into the tape. I think Specialized has done a great job giving the bike a nice smooth feel.

Natophelia,

Good luck with the tonsils today!!

No bike. Doesn't matter..can't ride it anyway! (Guess "Wednesday or Thursday" was an optomistic estimation.) Had the tonsils out Wednesday. Still feel like poo. Have TMJ but have never had real trouble UNTIL NOW! Not only is my throat not real happy, but my jaw is locked almost shut for the first time because of the tonsillectomy. Can't take the 'real' pain med either cuz it made me sick!! Yippeeee! So as soon as all this is done with and I have the bike I will update and post lots of pics!! I guess you didn't get yours yet, either?

By the way..baby food creamed spinach..not as disgusting as one would think. Especially mixed with chocolate soy milk after 36 hours of nearly nothing!

fubar5,

I'll try to weigh my Sequoia at some point. I looked in the manual and on their website and no mention of a weight. It's very, very light. I don't worry about weight too much though. The smooth ride does it for me.

Natophelia,

Hang in there. Doesn't sound like much fun! I was with you on the creamed spinach until you mixed it with the chocolate soy milk!!!!

I thought getting the bike so soon was a little suspicious...:( Specialized sucks in the shipping department. We are still getting bikes at the shop that we ordered back in August. But maybve it's because Specialized is so popular that they are always out of stock:crash:

Back when I was five I broke my jaw, had to have it wired shut for awhile(I don't remember how long). All I could eat...drink the whole time was those Carnation health drinks.

The guy a supergo weighed a sequioa and said it was 24 pounds.

Man things are so much better today! Still a bit raw, but if it weren't for the jaw I think I could eat pretty much anything now. Not too shabby for a 24 year old geezer :D Had a 16 year old guy say "It took me a week to be able to eat normally, but they say it's easier for young people." HA!! I got him beat! 6 days including the day of surgery! :p Guess I'll be on that new bike as soon as I get it!! :D :D

August, Fubar?? Geeze...sure hope it doesn't take THAT long!!

ooooh my!! The bike is IN! I went to visit it at the shop today :p ; they were just finishing putting it together. They were all excited about weighing it because it was so small- stood around the scale while one guy hung it. 19 lbs!!! It's so beeeeeauuuuuuuuuuutiful!! All shiney :) Going to be fitted on it Saturday. I can't wait!!!! Any closer to getting yours Fubar??
