Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - bb shells: loctite vs. grease vs. teflon tape vs. ?

i'm kind of wary of loctiiting anything to my frame.

I use grease.

grease and/or teflon tape

I use loctite on my phil wood BB because that's what he told me to do.

Normally grease, but my Miche BB required loctite on the drive side to keep it from moving.

i had a problem last night on my italian threaded campy cup and cone bb...

the fixed cup side came loose during a distance ride and i didn't realize it till i hit my destination... that would a great cause to use loctite/teflon tape.

haven't tried either yet on a non phil bb.. just might though. i guess italian threaded cup and cone bb's are prone to the problem.

yeah. italian bottom brackets have a convientient self-removal tool built in.

It don't matter that much as long as you're not dealing with an Al frame. Grease it, if it comes loose clean it with alcohol and use blue loctite, if that scares you use teflon tape. People act like loctite is some imperial adhesive of doom, the blue stuff is more filler than adhesive. Chasing and facing the BB shell (god it seems like I say that 3 times a day here) and using a torque wrench are 8.73 times as important as what goo you smear on the thing.
