Foo - Skateboarding

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

In a random conversation this evening, my roommates and I discovered we share the common trait of having wished to learn to skate when we were kids, but we didn't have suitable roads. So, tomorrow we're going MTBing on some smooth trails and buying skateboards on the way home.
It makes me wish I had my old roller blades. I was pretty good - better than I am at mountain biking!

I used to skate back in high school, and could never land anything. I worked for hours and hours with flip tricks, and could only get 1 foot on the board.
Kind of intresting because I can pedle kick a trials bike over a section of bike racks, but cant kick flip.
16 years on a board. I miss it.

www.break.com...if theres anything it has taught me its that: if you enjoy the ability to reproduce you should never attempt to skateboard/roller skate.

27 years skating, from the late 70's til about 5-6 years ago when I dis-located my kneecap.
Now I am banned by the wife from even a grind. :(;)
I started really biking in the 80's to help recover from a blown ligament in knee.
Have you thought of a mountain board? Those things look like awesome fun.
Funny...I took up biking to strengthen my knees so I could get back on a board. I ended up liking the bike too much.

Lots of memory glands being stimulated by this thread.
I got my first board when I was nine and spent most of my time trying to emulate the Pepsi Skateteam, (mid-70's). Then spent most of my teenage years getting kicked out of places that we weren't supposed to skate.
I skateboard/bus commuted up until last spring, when I started riding my bike to work.
I still break out my longboard, streetcruiser for runs to the convenience store and whatnot.

Then I started messing for 6 years in Montreal.

I cant skateboard or rollerskate! Ive tried them both and couldnt do either. I guess I am a hard learner. Or biking was supposted to be my #1 thing, because it was easy for me to ride a bike. Weird eh?
