I didn't vote, but that's only because I don't know what you're talking about. Carry on!

I have 4 DVD players. All work well enough not to need replacement.

16, and you understand all the technical advances since the days of the earliest pioneers in cinema, do you think your ready for HD-DVD, with blacker blacks, whiter whites and a far higher bit rate, or data storage capacity since DVD, or even Laserdisc.

Well I’d hold on, till the players are sealing in the affordable domain, that’s when I’ll place the bait at the end of the hook, and start fishing around for affordable players, within the £500,00 or under mark, no more than £500,00.

As for the cost of the HD-DVD films and other, not sure whether there going to be a few quid more or about the same retail cost as DVD, and I’m sure this is a backward format that will play on regular DVD players?

Still there are other technical issues that bother me, and that is the sound formatting, I’ve worked in the cinema in the past as a projectionist, and have an understanding of what sound formats that have passed, and what DVD’s today which receive the worse re-mixes in living memory.

Because of the lack of true discrete (five-screen).

I’m running three DVD players and two Pioneer Laserdisc players, and one PAL VHS HI-FI VCR, sad but true and great fun with Lucasfilm THX sound system and JBL professional, "Put on psch-war operations, make it loud. this Romeo Foxtrot,
Shall we dance ?" :D

Yeah, the pricing is insane, but it'll come down in a few years. I've read on Engadget that some HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, AND DVD players are in the works once Blu-Ray comes out. I don't think they play on regular dvd players if that's what you meant in your first post. From what little I know about it from reading articles and sutff, these new formats use a blue laser rather than a red one; so you can't watch them on dvd players.

I just don't see the point. Like those Super Audio formats that they tried to release in the past. DVD is great quality for me, don't see the point in fixing what ain't broken.

Would only buy if backwards compatibilit with DVD guaranteed prices were insanely low and my DVD player died.
