I invested $250 dollars in a GT Vengeance that I estimated to be worth well over $1000. It has all of the expected parts of a 6061 aluminium frame, pretty high-end bike from the late 90s.
There are shimano 600 brakes, Ultegra STI shifters/levers, Ultegra derailleurs (2 in front, 6 in back), and Syntace Fibre elbow bars.
Some things on the bike that surprised me (but I'm not used to these kind of bikes) were the carbon fiber (Kinesis Easton) fork, and some [I]really[I] [I]interesting wheels. They are 26" "Spin" wheels, an alloy job with three distinct "spokes." From the little information I gathered on them, they may be a magnesium alloy of some sort.
Does anybody know what the heck I am talking about? These wheels, does anyone know about them, or know of good links to learn more?
I ultimately am trying to sell this bike. Problem is, I can't find the serial number on the thing--anyone know where to look on this angular, heat treated frame of mine? I'm used to lugged steel frames, so this bike looks like an insect to me.

I've just been having a real hard time finding information on this bike, and it's frustrating wading through internet searches.

Interesting conundrum, the GT Vengeance is an interesting bike. In the late 90s it blew everything except the P2 out of the water aerodynamically. The components don't sound too amazing, if they are indeed 6 speed.
The wheels are cool and will definately help the resale, but they tested out worse or just slightly better than Mavic open pros in the wind tunnel.
I saw a GT Vengeance frame sit on roadbikereview for about 2 months with a price of around $450 if I'm not mistaken.
Really, you have a cool frame on your hands, and if it fits there is no real reason to get rid of it. And as far as resale goes, I don't think anyone will doubt that it is a GT Vengeance so a serial number shouldn't be a make or break factor in the sale. You can probably figure to get around $750 if you sell it as the collectors item it is. I remember someone posting the exact setup you're talking about on forum.slowtwitch.com (RacerX) and some people really liked its look.
Crap, I posted the rear derailleur wrong. It's a 9 cog cassette, not 6. Doh!

Also, like the frame that cslone posted, mine has a built in aerodynamis seat post.

I did a tt race last week and there was a guy on a red/white and blue GT. While it is older, it did get the job done. I think ebay would be your best bet for selling it, although $1000 might be on the high side.

Yes, there is a difference between the value of all of the parts added up and the actual price you'll get when you resell. I was hoping to get $800, but if e-bay's the best bet, I'll have to just put it up there and hope for the best.
The bike has some minor cosmetic issues--aside from the expected knicking from the chain etc. the decals are scratched up. Neither side has all of the word "Vengeance," for example. The extended aerodynamic seat post has leftover sticker bits on it. Also, one of the elbow pads for the aerobar is broken, but I'll replace that.
There are over 1500 miles on the bike, but it has been taken care of. Aside from maybe a new set of Michelin Axial pros (the current ones are a little old), the bike is in good working order.
It really looks cool with the 26" Spin wheels, something you don't see a whole lot of anymore.
This bike will be on ebay soon!

On ebay, just be sure you put a reserve price on it. So you don't wind up giving it away to somebody for chump change!

Whoa! Sorry about those massive pictures... I didn't do that on purpose, by the way, I'm just along for the ride when it comes to operating a computer.
Thanks for the tip, H20chick. I've only bought stuff on ebay before... Maybe I should get practice selling horseshoes or something before selling an item like this?

i just found this after running a search for gt vengeance.
we just had one donated to our local bike co-op. (frame only). i have a few questions hopefully you guys can help me with.
it appears that this thing uses a normal seat post. anyone know what size? it seems to be smaller than a 27.2
the blue with the black Kinesis Air Foil fork is from 98 right?
the rear spacing for the hub looks to be 130, is that correct?
anyone know the diameter of the 3 bolts that hold the seat tube in place?
thanks for any help anyone can give me, im new to the whole tri aero bike thing and know know crap about them. cant find nuch as far as info on the net goes for these things either it seems.

Sorry to tell you... but if I'm not completely wrong SPIN was the only wheel that actually measured worse in the windtunnel compared to a standard 32 spoke box wheel...
