Ok, I've dont a quick search of the forum, but am more interested in asking the question directly.. Here's the bike i'm talking about, my Surly Crosscheck:

I've currently got it built up as a SS with some fairly beefy components - Paul Hubs and RaceFace cranks. I'm looking to convert the Crosscheck into more of a medium weight touring bike this spring, and put signifigantly more miles on it this summer/fall (maybe British Columbia to San Fran).
So here's the question. I've got a strong background in MTB and track components, but lack knowlege in touring/geared road bike. What should I be looking for as far as parts? I can find gear used (eBay, LBS), so if there's good components I should keep an eye out for, what are they? I'd be looking for crankset, front and rear deraileurs, probably bar-end shifters, and a new rear wheel (maybe front wheel too).
What should I be looking for? Thanks!
