If you’ve been wondering what the City of Portland means when they talk about “going Platinum”, look no further than this fascinating video called “Copenhagen, City of Cyclists”. It was sent to me by a reader whose wife works for PSU’s Center for Transporation Studies.
This 22 minute video perfectly illustrates the goals and visions that Portland’s bike advocates are striving for. Here are the links:

Posted over in advocacy and safety already. I heard of it through a blogger in Missoula, MT, though...

That's a great video. I sent the original link to City of Cyclists (http://www.vejpark.kk.dk/byenstrafik/cyklernesby/uk/index.htm) to the forums of the Bicycle Advocacy of Central Arkansas (http://www.bacar.org/) to inspire us in our efforts.

Wow, it's the exact opposite of my town! :(

Wonderful video, thanks for posting it. Holland is similar, there'e literally rows of bikes parked from people commuting and running errands.
There's a huge difference with the culture of bicycles in places like these, they are accepted as part of the transportation system, however with a hundred year history of cycling then you begin to understand the difference of why this is and why in america you get things thrown at you.
great video. its always gratifying to see 5 or 6 cyclists waiting for a signal next to some cars. in portland that is. what does it take to have bikes as a alternative mode of transit in the US? probably a dense urban core, a understanding driver mentality, and the infrastructure to accomodate bikes (ie, bike lanes). cities i would ride in, portland, chicago, san diego, seattle, mebbe new york if i am feeling lucky. i would be dead in detroit, miami, la, vegas, houston.
