yeah i was with the richmond crew. one of our guys got some good air and broke his collarbone pretty nicely in that crash. other than that it was a great day and great to get some experience on the track

There will be a good number of folks out from the city I am sure for the Chi-town event. I cannot speak for whatever LA plans on doing. I might make both, but definitely one!

Nah, that pic is from the A final, so mixed cats. That guy was in the 2/3 races, so he's probably earned the wheelset (not that I haven't seen plenty of Zipps this year in Cat 4/5 road races, oddly enough).
Just a point about lower cats running Zipps or TriSpokes...I am a slow cat 5, but will be busting out the Zipp 440's this year. I got them off Craigslist for $275 with tufo s33 specials already mounted...
I got my Trispokes for $100 each...
Just sayin....
p.s. But I know there are some guys who have full custom with NEW Zipp's and paid retail..

Its called the trickle-down cycling economy. Cat 1s change sponsors, get different wheelsets, sell off old. Cat 2/3s upgrade to better wheelsets. Cat 4/5s buy up nice wheelsets at steep discounts.
Its coming to a saturation point where Cat 5s through Cat 1s, everyone will be riding some form of carbon wheelsets. At this point no one will bat an eye over what someone else is using regardless of class, and no one will worry over whether they have "earned" the right to ride Zipps, Mavics, or Corimas.
(Also, have you seen what the juniors ride? 12-16yrs old)

That "earned" was only meant in response to the question about that particular person, and I really wanted it to come off a bit more tongue in cheek than it did...no offense intended. I have no problem with anyone at any level running whatever they want to run. I'm certainly not worthy of any bike I ride, however...eh...pedestrian...it may be.
It is purely a function of trickle-down as Jose points out. Even beyond eBay, you can now get 50mm deep aero carbon wheelsets (at least for the road) from a few manufacturers for well under a grand new; only a matter of time for the track, I'd guess.
And man, you're right about the juniors...there's the occasional steel Fuji, but custom Tiemeyers with full aero Zipp setups seem to be all the rage with the preteen set these days. Yikes! Of course those juniors are faster than I am too...
Anyway, to get back to the topic, props to Amy on the great pix, as usual

Melbourne has the pre-event which I'm speaking to Makatron about, and there is regular track racing every Wednesday and Thursday night (http://www.vic.cycling.org.au/DISC/disc_velodrome_facts.htm)(indoor, 250m, boards). There is a number of outdoor tracks too (2 within 20min ride).
Sydney has a few outdoor tracks also and the Dunc Gray (where the Olympics were held). Im sure they have a similar schedule of racing. Im hitting Sydney shortly after I get home to see where the Sydbma are at with planning and ask Scoot about track use.
October is the start of the summer track season so it'll all be happening.

yeah that was my first official race on the track. unfortunately I went down in that crash and broke collarbone in 3 places, just got surgery which was a success. Tendon from hamstring harvested to reinfoce the clavical. Doc says it will be a good strong fix. Now just paying the bills and waiting to get back on the bike. My bros from RVA are the most awesome friends and racers. How did the others in that crash come out. From my perspective someone went down and took out at least one other rider, I had no time to react and crashed into someone/something and went flying. Damn that hurt! I think I got the worst of it? Hope everyone else is OK?

# 482 abruptly came from outside and clipped the front wheel of popdelusions who was riding to my left and about a wheel lenght ahead of me. afterwards i asked 482 if he knew what he did and he said " someone hit my rear wheel..."
Hope you get better soon.

I'm really sorry to hear that you broke your collarbone so badly (I think you did fare the worst, at least that I've heard), but I'm glad to hear you found a good doc and that you're mending. I hope the surgery wasn't too traumatic; that sounds like a serious piece of repair work.
I was the first guy to go down, so I was the someone (and I'll bet my bike was the something) that you ran over. I recall it all happening as marcelinyc describes; that kid cut downtrack without pulling all the way past me -- I guess he thought he saw a hole where there wasn't one -- and there was nothing I could do to keep the bike up with him coming down right into my front wheel, so down I went.
I agree...it sure hurt a lot (and man, getting run over by people is not an experience I want to repeat), though with some dumb luck I got off pretty easy, despite being run over by everybody -- mainly I left a lot of skin (seems like at least one good-sized strip from every limb) on the track, so I've been wrapped in Tegaderm ever since. Nice chainring chunk out of my left ankle, and some good tire burn on my back and shoulder, which is a little disturbing. Beyond that I've just been stiff and sore as hell: sprained right shoulder, and hips, back, and right thigh are just one big bruise. Feeling a little better every day, though.
We'll both be back out there soon. Again, happy to know you're doing OK -- hang in there in the meantime.
