Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Possibly My Last Post!!!

It a fit of terminal stupidity I investigated what it would take to turn my old paramount into a fixed gear machine of death.

Answer: a $20 thread on sprocket and an hour's worth of stripping off deraileurs, etc. Nothing else was required, no redishing of rear wheel, no chain magic...nothin'.


Nothing left but for my to strap my 252# 54 year old asthmatic, diseased riddled carcass onto that bike and find out which body part breaks first...

do the 03 HHH on a fixed gear paramount?
You do know of course that a fixie is
very low tech. . . :lol:

NO BREAKAGE!! A lot of feet high in the air at the stops...but no broken bones...I'lll do a ten or twenty miler tomorrow as see if I can't atleast chip an ankle bone or something.

MAN THIS IS COOL! went around the block until dark (and my poor old lung deflated) adjusting. The old horse had been attic'd for close to a year. BUT it is a completely different feel to the ride.

When I finish rearranging parts (it still has scott doubledrop handle bars) I'll post the old warhorses new look.

Isn't it fun? So quiet. I learned one thing immediately. As soon as you push down on a pedal to get started, SIT. I almost got lobbed right off the bike as the pedal came on around and raised me up unexpectedly! I can't wait to get a little time to rebuild an old bike into another fixie. I haven't had one since I had to "unconvert" my old Bianchi back to a multi-speed.

Riding a fixed gear feels like a connection to the cyclists of 100 years ago. Kind of pure like you are part of the bike or it is an extension of you, putting you firmly in touch with the ground.

I have found through past experiance it helps if you fall off once or twice :D
