I've got a threaded fork with a steer tube that's too long for my frame.
Should a bike shop be able to rethread the fork after cutting it? If so, how much $$ should I expect to pay for such a service?

Are you saying the threads on the fork don't extend down far enough to properly install the top parts of the headset?

yes, a bike shop should be able to rethread the fork or you might be able to find a used threader on ebay. my guess is that the bike shop would charge about between $25-$50. basically a thread is a die of the diameter and thread size used on bikes. i have seen a couple on ebay over the years.
