For the past month I've been plagued with a dreadfully sore hip. Felt like arthritis or something in the hip socket. I went to my Physician on Monday a week ago and got a handfull of pills... anit-inflamitory and pain relievers. Well, I got relief from the medication as long as I was taking it. The downside was, my poop factory went on strike (codine in the pain meds) and spontanoius sweating.

Being sick and tired of being sick and tired I sought the services of a compotent Chiropractor... one who is Palmer trained and practices good old fashioned straight chiropractic. It took about three phone calls to find a doctor that I felt comfortable with via a phone interview. Prices were right, $70 for the initial exam (the same amount I have shelled out already for the Physician and meds, with no lasting relief) and $30 for follow-up visits and NO X-Rays.

I made an appointment for Friday evening. He examined me, found a sacrial(sp?) rotation and twist. After an hour of examination, massage and manipulation I got off the table feeling great! I was able to lift and load my right leg without pain, climb and decend stairs in a normal gait. Fantastic!

With a bit of trepidation I asked when he wanted to see me again (the true test of how deep he was going to stick his hand in my pocket) figuering he'd say Monday. He said to set something up for next Friday, but to call if I was having problems. Cool, I thought... he looking out for my health not my bank account! It's Tuesday and I still feel good, though I am looking forward to my friday adjustment. The sweats are gone and the poop workers are off strike, amazing how good a bowel movement feels when you havent gone for five days.

My very first experience with Chiropractic was some 35 odd years ago and that practicioner was the same type of doctor. Health was first, and money was trivial. I've seen quite a few other Chiropractors between then and now none of which equaled the skill and committment to patient health of these two doctors. It's tough to find a good Chiropractor, but when you do don't let him/her go.

So, what are your thoughts and experiences with chiropractic health? Good bad or ugly let's hear it!

I've never been myself, but I've known people who swear by it. Although I've heard even worse things about bad ones, so I'd have to say I'd be a little nervous about trying to find a good one.

I have to go see mine at least a couple weeks a year when my SI joint injury flairs up.
Electro stimuli and cold rub, some deep tissue release in a ligament in my butt, hurts at the time but man O man it's awesome. They won;t do a manipulation (my request) and they are generally on a pay-as-you-can plan ..... awesome.

Same. I know a few people who swear by their chiropractor and have encouraged me to go to one. Personally my back does not exhibit enough problems to warrant visiting a chiropractor although I do think one of my discuses or vertebrae are misaligned and this causes me to bend sideways differently.

Glad to hear that the problem was taken care of Stacey :) and yeah it is nice to find doctors that are more concerned about health than money.

I have an extremely good chiropractor who I only need to see every couple years for back pain. If you find a good one, they can solve all your problems with ease. If you find a bad one, you will end up wasting a lot of time and money on nothing. I wish there was a 1-800-chiropractor like they have for dentists.

Thanks TG, it feel so good to feel good.

You'd be suprised at how much better you'll feel after an adjustment by a GOOD Chiropractor. If you think for a moment about your nervous system, the data that it carries and its relation to your spine it becomes clear that good chiropractic health is the foundation to good physical health.

Case in point: Back in my youth, both my best friend and I took sick with the flu at the same time (He was an orphaned kid that lived with his older sister & brother, but spent mopre time at my house than at home). I went to the chiropractor on the second day of being sick, he didn't go. I was feeling better by the end of the next day, he was still sick 4 days later. Except for the chiropractic adjustment our care was identical, he was staying at my house and my mom took care of us. Coincidence or not? I'm not saying that the Chiropractor cured me of the flu, but rather that having proper vertebral alignment allow my body to preform the healing process on its own much faster.

IMHO, talk more in-depth to these peoople, talk to a couple of the doctors, get the rack run and see how much better you feel.

Then you can come back and thank me later :)

Palmer Chiropractic College as a web form you can fill out to find a Palmer graduate in your area. Palmer, from what I understand is straight bone-crackin' chiropractic. But, yes reccomendation and interview is the way to go.

I have been seeing a chiropractor for a couple of months now for my knees. As a result they are feeling much better. As an added bonus my chiropractor is an expert mountain biker so he knows what a cyclists body goes through. He is also great at doing bike fits which I believe has been the biggest factor in my knees feeling better.

On a side note he is a graduate of Palmer College. Here is his website (http://www.worldwidesportsmed.com/drthaxton.htm).

Weee. My biggest back problems happen when I'm sick, especially coughing alot, like I am now. I can feel the pain creeping in already as the coughs rack my body :(

Acupuncture is very similar (not in the treatment, but in the finding a doctor and stuff). I've heard fantastic stuff about it if you find a good doctor, but the bad ones can be pretty bad. From what I've heard you want to find a genuine old wizened chinese person, the people that do the "modern" versions or mix it with medical doctor stuff aren't nearly as good.

My wife and kids go regularly to a Chiropractor and think he is the greatest. Since we've spent so much money there, I get to start seeing him for FREE.

I have my first appointment, this evening, so I'll let you know how things go.

Good luck. You'll probably feel great at first, then a couple hours later it will feel like you've been run over by a truck. This too shall pass. In the morning things should be feeling better again.

Welcome to the club :)
