i brought this up a while back...why don't those of us who ride our bicycles everywhere or at least to and from work get a nice little tax refund or something?
after doing my taxes this past week, i can't help but think about it again...i pay state, local and federal taxes...alot of this tax money goes to automobile ****e... nothing goes to things we need as cyclists...
kind of pisses me off a bit, it takes a lot of effort to ride a bike everywhere, but we don't get any 'pat on the back'
i guess kind of a rant

When I did my taxes, I noticed an available alternative fuel allowance that apparently would reduce your tax base. Why not a no fuel allowance?
The less gasoline you buy, the less gas tax you pay. If you have no car, you pay no registration taxes. No Federal excise tax on tires. No sales tax on the purchase of the automobile, parts, or maintenance.
That's a bunch of tax breaks right there, in addition to avoiding car payments, insurance, maintenance, and gasoline. Since it's all the same money, there's a significant savings if you can do without the car regardless of who would have gotten the money.
You can write off your cycling as your "hobby". In the deductions, you'll see the hobby tax- just keep your receipts and write it all off- bikes, clothes, gear, magazines... I even wrote off a cycling trip- legit too, since I called the IRS and asked about it first before I did it.

I would like to see a defined tax break for cycling as transportion, if only to give the fact that cycling is viable as transportation more weight.

South Carolina gives a tax deduction for bicycle commuting. I think that it is .10 per mile.

shoot, all this effort and all you get is wierd looks from people like i'm a guerrilla or terrorist..like i'm some crazy dude who isn't getting with the program...or that i'm deaf and perhaps ******** when i walk into shops..or get heckled at stoplights or cutoff by cars turning in from of me...the list goes on as we know or is this just me
