Yesterday I managed to badly damage one link in my chain. The inner plate is bent into the outer plate, and I have not been able to loosen it. Is it possible to replace just the links that are damaged, or do I need a new chain? I'm using a SRAM PC58 chain that is only a month old.

You could get another power link to replace the damaged link .I think they sell them seperately at your LBS. Or if you are really hard on chains get the pc48 its cheaper but IMO as durable .

Any chance that you saved the extra links that you cut off when you installed the chain last month?

Adding a link or two to a chain is o.k. to do.

No, unfortunatly, I didn't. I ended up picking up a new chain, using the spares from the new one to fix the old, and am just going to keep the old one around as a spare.

Just to chime in here, yes you can repair the links, i did this myself when I bent an Ultegra chain - fine ever since. Just buy another power link.
