I have a question that I can't seem to answer on my own. When I train with other athletes, regardless of effort level I frequently ask what HR they see on their HRM. It never fails, my HR is almost always 10-30 BPM below what thiers are. The RPE is the same...in other words if we are just cruising along I'm at 125, they are 145. If we are hammering, I'm at 150...they are 175. I don't know if it really means anything good or bad...just wondering why. I'm 35 years old and most of the guys I train with are 35-45. Even though it's not rational, I can't help but think if I could access another 10-20 BPM on my top end I would really be able to hammer on the bike and run.

Does this difference mean anything or is it simply irrelevent?

I'm the same way. It doesn't mean that I am weaker or stronger, it just means my heart rate is different. I typically have a low heart rate, as long as I know that and set up my zones accordingly it's fine.

simply irrelevent (irrelevant)

HR varies widely among people.

HR varies widely among people.

And among individuals as well.

Sometimes my RHR will be 38...sometimes 58.

Sometimes I'll average 165bpm during a tempo ride...sometimes 185.

It's not something to get totally hung up on.

You may have a big heart. My max HR is around 175, and I ride with similarly-sized guys my age who have a max around 190. Different people, different-sized hearts.
