MP3 for running

What is your recommendation for a reasonably priced MP3 that will do the work while running?

I suppose that depends on what range represents 'reasonably priced'; I use an iPod nano - about $100. open-air headphones that would actually stay on my ears (the Apple-supplied ones were useless) were another $15 or so.

I have a Nano as well. They don't come with a armband or anything. That is another $30. I just bought my sons 512mb Ipod Shuffles for $69. They hold about 100-130 songs. They come with a neck lanyard and are super small and light. No disply like the Nano, but you get what you pay for.

ebay. Every now and then my persistance pays off and I find a real deal on something that normally sells for more but somehow escaped notice.

LOL!!! seems IPOD is ruling this crowd. I have a shuffle, got the 1gig one. Works great for running. It has no siplay, but I dont look at my moms Nano when I use it, so meh. The shuffle is so light it is perfect for this duty.

I got the creative muvo from walmart. It was about $60 and about the size of the shuffle (small). I don't remember the memory but I like to rotate songs and it holds several hours worth. I use it daily for running and riding and it hasn't failed me yet. You'll pay extra for the i-pod name

Yes, but you're also paying for the Ipod reputation, reliability and service.

I run or ride daily with mine. I also mow the lawn, do the dishes, yardwork, workout, walk the dog, etc. I've also done 4k miles of off-road dirtbiking with it. I've had it for about a year and never had any problems. I could have bought 2 instead of the shuffle and I'd still be ahead. From ipod "Your iPod comes with single incident telephone support for the first 90 days and a one-year limited warranty."...my muvo comes with a one year warranty.

I use both Shuffle and Nano. Great for running, my problem was sweat-proofing. Finally found the solution with the Otterbox.

I'd go with a Shuffle. My wife surprised me with a 20G iPod for Xmas last year and I'm always worried that I'll break the darn thing.

Nice price for a 2 gb. Has some quirks but quite liveable. Also works with subscription music services, and is not an Apple product.

the shuffle and nano are particularly great for running/riding cuz they're flash only, which means no hard drive, which means that they have no moving parts and are essentially skip proof and very light, so even if you drop them they're unlikely to sustain any damage, unline a heavier hard drive based player.

I have a Muvo too. What I like about it is that if you sweat all over it and it stops working, you can rinse the thing off, inside and out--filtered or distilled water is better and take the battery out first--and air or blow dry it off and it's ready to go again.

When I am running, I don't want to have to look at a screen if I want to advance the song or adjust the volume. I am using an old Rio (Cali model, I think). I like the design but it doesn't hold much. As soon as I find one that doesn't use a touch screen and has a well-designed belt clip, I will buy it but I have been looking for several months now. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions?I've used a few generations of iPods, and you can feel the controls enough to adjust things blind. That's probably the case with most mp3 players.

I have a creative 1 GB MP3 player...has a display, uses a drag and drop, easy to use, good headphones and comes with a beltclip....which is WAY better than any arm band.

Also...I run in any conditions including total downpours and this device gets soaked and never fails.

I have a shuffle they are great it has an attachment that makes it like a necklace and you just hang it under your top and I have never had problem with the speakers falling out of my ears.
