Ok I know some of you do it so don't try to deny it. I am tired of people calling me Manny (ice age reference for those of you with no kids) and I am considering it....

Electric clippers for the first go around then a razor.

A good throw-away twin blade in the shower about once/week. I've done it since 1984 and don't think I would ever let it grow back.

+1 for the good old fashioned razor, but admittedly, I'm not as hirsute as you... But that's what all the guys did in college when it was time to shave and some of them were pretty furry. (And that was the WHOLE body...)

Sand paper. Usually 60...or 80 if I'm feeling tender.

OK. Clippers followed by razor as ken says (above).

+1

I tried using like a har depilitory, like Nair...its expensive, stinks, and only lasts like a week for me. I am thinking about letting it grow out and have it waxed. Just so it will last longer....we'll see.

I am tired of people calling me Manny. I run with a guy who is pretty hairy, in fact, if he takes of his shirt the police department gets calls of Sasquach sightings.

My wife complains about my legs feeling like sandpaper, cause I'm lazy and don't keep up with the shaving.

Batman, I want to wax, too. But, I'M SCARED!!!!
I use the clippers and then shave. I take off the Winter and shave Spring thru Fall.

For better or worse I've never had a great deal of body hair (and at 46, my head is playing catchup) so the only part of my body I have ever considered for more permanent hair removal is my face, since She Who Must Be Obeyed has told me that beards are out of the question and the consequent need to constantly shave is high on my list of pointless annoyances.

As for the rest of the body, what's the attraction or benefit here - vanity? aerodynamics? vanity masquerading as aerodynamics?

Oh this is strictly to fit in with the cool kids!!! Didn't realize so MANNY of you here did this

I think its vanity and I've heard it's easier to heal w/o so much leg hair.

If you work that hard to have such nice looking legs, might as well show them off, eh? It's like a badge of honor, I think.

I, on the other hand, recall fondly the college days when I didn't shave from September to March. I'm genetically endowed with very fine hair, and the chlorine made it so light and fine that it wasn't a big deal. How nice it was to eliminate 1/3 of my shaving routine. Actually more than 1/3 if you consider surface area...

I don't think it would be that popular if I went back to that routine...

H2O chick...there are a lot of hairy legs/pits on girls from the pacific NW, at least at the Oregon schools. Used to see a ton of em at Arizona State games. I think you would fit right it....but, do you want to????!!!!!! :)

I don't think I could ever let the pits go. I do have granola tendencies, but I'm not that crunchy...

She Who Must Be Obeyed

Chris. I'd be willing to bet that is the first David Feherty quote to ever be posted on Bike Forums. The more I know about you, the more I think we would get along famously. You crack me up.

Someone mentioned hairless legs being better for road rash...it's definitely true...it also results in less serious flesh tearing as longish hair will grab the ground and pull off more flesh...ouch!

Reasons I have heard for shaving legs:

-Quicker to heal road rash
-Cleaner heal as the hair can grab dirt and get rash/cuts infected
-Massages feel better
-The mental aspect of feeling aero/hydro-dynamic (whether it truely makes you either of these, I don't know)

I actually did this for the first time last week. I used the electric razor, then a disposable.

CJ,
let me guess, you're a golfer (or at least read his column in Golf Magazine), since that is how David refers to his wife in those columns. I imagine we'd get along great.

So far as I can tell, the phrase is originally from the novel "She" written by Henry Rider Haggard, at least that's what my wife, the fan-of-all-things-old-and-British, tells me. Rumpole of the Bailey (the British legal comedy) is how I first heard the phrase.

Well, since I've met both of you personally, I feel justified in declaring that you would indeed get along famously. C'mon CJ - hop a plane and let's go riding in the great PNW.

After the Honu. I'm booked solid until then. I'll need a loaner bike...do I have to ride the one with the headlight?

The first time that I ever heard this phrase was from an old English tv show 'Rumpole of the Bailey'. Haven't heard it for years .... :roflmao:

I use the Intuition razor. No worrying about shaving cream, makes it easier to shave in the shower. It's a bit more expensive but the covenience is well worth it.

Cheers

The butt, that's where you stop. I use clippers on my chest and arms. It's called "man"scaping and it's recommended by 4 out of 5 plumbers around the globe.

So why didn't anybody mention that when you shave (except for your face, apparently) it itches like hell when it grows back?

I was recently a paid volunteer in a clinical drug trial for a new class of antibiotics some drug company was testing, and had to wear a 12-wire ECG lead setup on my chest for 2 days. In order to get a good signal they had to shave a good section of my chest. When they finally took the leads off and peeled off the circular adhesive patches it looked I had been attacked by deranged octopus that left circular red marks all over my chest and side. I use some acetone to get the rest of the adhesive off and though I was all done, but for the last week it seems that I've done nothing but scratch

dont scratch, it only makes it worse, and it will go away after about a day or two....atleast it deos for me. Helps to use a after shaving balm.

I'll say; It's coming up on two weeks post-shave and I still itch. How anybody convinces you to shave a second time, I'll never know.

I don't know Chris maybe it was the experimental drug trial u did and not the shaving!!!!

As a card carrying Furry One, I appreciate the banter and advice. I'm doing my first open water distance swim race this July and figured I'd shave given all the effort I've put into training. When I say I'm hairy, it's an understatement. As a Clydesdale division triathlete I think the shave may get me under the weight cut for a late summer triathlon. I just hope the pelt grows back for some winter insulation. It's cold here in Minnesota.
I'll probably do the clipper/razor combo. What I hear is that to decrease the itch it's important to keep things well moisturized. As for where the clippers stop, if it's covered by the suit, it don't need to go...my hand is not that steady.
