Road Cycling - Wife's new bike..... I'm happier than she is I think...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just talked to the LBS and my wifes new Trek should be here by Monday. Can't wait 'til she gets it so I'll finally have someone to ride with!! Happy Dance!! http://ecarthage.com/~nivens/misc/happydance.gif http://ecarthage.com/~nivens/misc/happydance.gif http://ecarthage.com/~nivens/misc/happydance.gif http://ecarthage.com/~nivens/misc/happydance.gif http://ecarthage.com/~nivens/misc/happydance.gif
WTG. But how is it that you have no one to ride with? Surely there must be SOME cyclists where you are?

Well, if Missouri is anything like Kentucky, bicyclists are few and very far between!!
When we visited rrelatives in Somerset, Kentucky, a couple of years ago, the bike shop had gone bankrupt, and the only bikes I saw (very few, and no real bikers on the road) were ***mart specials.

Well yes I see roadies from time to time going down our road but I simply don't know any of them....yet. I just think it's a lot more fun if you have someone else to ride with. Kinda keeps your mind off the fact that your legs are aching and your lungs are burning...lol. I just started riding a few months ago and have not had a chance to ride with any groups or anything. A LBS in the town I work has a weekly ride when the weather gets better but until then it's just me myself and I....and now my wife if she can take a little cold weather. :D
I think you're right about that DF. Most people around here think a "REALLY GOOD BIKE" is a top of the line wally world bike. Where the low end is $49.95 and the high-end is $159.95....HEHEHE. My wife has one of those now and the freakin' think weighs almost 40 POUNDS!!! Not to mention the excellent components!! NOT!!!

David,
That is great news. I love riding with my wife, but we don't get to do it often enough for her to really get started. Just remember to keep the rides short, easy and fun. Let HER set the pace and decide how fast she wants to progress. If it hurts and isn't fun that beautiful new bike will be hanging in the garage riding the ceiling instead of the road!
Regards,
Raymond

YEP YEP I hear ya dude. Very good advice!! Sometimes I do forget and say negative stuff to her and she gets all p|ssed off and tells me.....well, you get the idea. ;) I've got a few months headstart on her but I think she'll do alright. Should be a lot of fun. Just hope the weather cooperates enough for us to ride some. Just starting to get real cold hear again but it seems like there are always a few really nice days even in the middle of winter.

I third that advice. It's very easy to let our (my) enthusiasm of the sport scare a potential newcomer.

They gave me a 15% discount on accesories with the purchase of the bike so I picked her up a new Cat-Eye computer too. Decided to get myself one too since it was 15%off.....hehehe. Got me the one with cadence. :D
