Somebody did not want me to ride today. Ever have one of these days ?
I finally got out of the house today planning to tackle some serious road, maybe 20 - 30 mile loop. Plenty of hills, all on road, for me, a challenging day.
Anyway - right out of the chute, I realize that when I got the new rim put on - DOH - LBS forgot to put the sensor for the bike computer on.
Ok - after one mile loop, back to the house to take one off the old bike.
Next, out on the road, huffing my way up hill number two of the ride, I decide to stand to power my way up. Felt great, got into a good rythm, really swaying the bike for some extra zip, and I realize that the bars are really sasheying in my hands. I sit down and twist the bars sharply - EGADS - the stem is completely loose and the bar is turning without turning the bike.
Sigh, stop the side of the road, pull out the tools (At the bottom of the bag of course), tighten it up, and get rolling again. Finally crest that hill, get into a rythm - WTF !!! Friggin stones and rocks all over the side of the road, swerve to avoid - BLAM.....hit one dead on. Know what comes next - SNAKE BITE. Damn.
Head into a parking lot to patch the tire - put the bike upside down, and since its my first roadside patch job, of course it takes forever. Finally get the tire back on and realize two things:
1. Damn pump I bought when I had a hybrid has NO chance of getting anywhere near 90psi.
2. I forgot about my cyclocomputer when I flipped the bike up on its bars - its now nicely scratched up - DAMNIT !!
Limping my way home on a mostly flat tire and now - click - click - click - cadence sensor has come loose and I am banging into it with my pedal.
Finally I got home, trying to decide if I wanted to take up walking as my new sport.
Total Distance ?
5 miles - tops !!
Sigh. To quote Fred Durst:
your best bet is to just stay away mother f*****
its just one of those days
