And note the weight of the bikes. From a low of 15.4lbs for Vicky P's ride to a whopping 20.7lbs for the pursuit bikes.
I've spent most of this afternoon editing recordings of the whole 4 days down to a slightly more manageable 7 DVDs...
Yeah, I was surprised at the number of riders using carbon track bars - I'd say 80% of the sprinters (male & female) had 'em. Mainly Eastons, but the French team all had those VO2 bars which looked well swishtastic...
Also interesting to note that the entire French team were running Sugino cranks (champagne anodized Gran Mighies) rather than the usual D-Ace (and occasionally) Record that everyone else used.
Also lots of riders using Sugino Zen chainrings.
Equipment highlight for me has to be the British sprint squads CasCo 'human fly' helmets. Kind of a love-it-or-hate-it item...

I had to buy a subscription for $20 to see it on http://www.wcsn.com/. This was the only web based service allowed to show the event in the US.
I'm still making my way through the coverage.
And note the weight of the bikes. From a low of 15.4lbs for Vicky P's ride to a whopping 20.7lbs for the pursuit bikes.
I was one of the bike checkers for the World Cup in Manchester (very boring job) lightest bike was an aluminium Pinarello at 6.5kg (had to tape 300g of chain inside his seatpost to make the 6.8 kg weight limit!!!), heaviest was custom steel frame belonging to a Caribbean sprinter, weighed in at about 11.5 kg.
The Looks, BTs and Corimas so widely used at world level are not light, the GB bikes were consistently the lightest carbon framed bikes.

The French aren't the only ones using Sugino Grand Mightys, GB team pursuiters also use them as you can just make out in this PHOTO (http://www.cyclingnews.com/photos/2006/apr06/wtc06/index.php?id=wtc063/_MG_1187), the sprinters use Dura Ace.

That would have to be the dumbest rule ever (I know you don't write them:D ).
Does the 300gm chain shoved up the seatpost make the bike any stronger?
Is 6.5kg particularly light for a bike without brakes, derailleurs, 10 sprockets, cables etc? No. Then why is the weight limit the same for road and track bikes?

Yep, stupid isn't it:rolleyes: was a crying shame, a beautiful aluminium Pinarello with 300grams of 1/8 track chain taped into the seat pillar! Ludicrous.
There were very few bikes that did fail on the weight rule. No sprinter's bike failed (strength rather than weight obviously the most important thing here). No pursuiter's bike failed, presumably due to the extra weight of aero bars. No Carbon bikes failed. The only underweight bikes were a few of the aluminium traditional bikes used in the bunch races, even then it was only the smaller bikes, so it was mostly the ladies' bikes that were close to the limit. Having said that, the 6.5kg Pinarello actually belonged to one of the GB men!
I think that all the commissaires that were checking the bikes totally agreed that the rule is daft, but, like it or not, it's there in the rule book, so we had to waste our time enforcing it until UCI see sense.:mad:
Equally silly was the rule on bike length, we all felt sorry for Magnus Backstedt as he had to shorten his tribars considerably to meet a rule which treats a huge Swedish man the same as a woman 40cm shorter. To his credit Magnus didn't complain in the slightest, altered his bike to comply and got on with the job in hand, well done:D
